slipper 116
just been experimenting with my reloads, using 40 grain v max heads with accurate 2460 and remington primers, got my groups really good now clover leaf at 100 yards, but to get groups like that have had to go down to 23.7 grains, my question is will the drop on the bullet be a lot more than factory ammo? I think using 23.7 gives me 3200 fps, factory ammo is 3800, with a drop of 5.5 inches at 300 yards, would anybody be able to give me an idea of how much mine will drop or is it just a matter of going out and checking? not being lazy but thought i would ask to save on powder and heads etc 1 Quote Link to post
zx10mike 137
i had this with a 204 its just a couple more clicks bud i would want accuracy.if you want faster you might need to start from scratch.have you tried the higher end acording to my book you can go to 27.8 grn giving 3800.that makes it the fastest powder of the group. i bet rl 10x and vit would also be good Quote Link to post

zx10mike 137
or 6 clicks not the end of the world for an accurate load but sadly it will suffer the wind call a bit more to and perhaps that does make it worth the effort finding something a tad faster to close that gap a bit. slipper 116
thanks for the replies, i am going to try a batch of 27.8, i had altered the bullet seating depth aswell last time so perhaps thats why my groups were better ? Quote Link to post

Slipper - if you intend to jump from 23.7 gr to 27,8 gr in one go - that is one hell of a leap (4 grs) in such a small case. I would honestly suggest (for safety reasons) that if you feel it is so important to cram that much into the case you move up at least in 1 grain increments - even 1 grain increments sounds OTT. As you shoot them, examine the headstamp - not so much for flattened primers but bolt marks on the headstamp. Edited October 4, 2013 by dicehorn Quote Link to post

slipper 116
it,s ok i have already fired 4 shots of each from 23 up to 27.5, then my best group was with 24 grains, but not brilliant, so i tried 23 up to 24 and 23.7 was clover leaf. Quote Link to post
