i wouldnt like to hazard a guess as different guns suit different folk. but i wil,l say ive always used spring guns untill recently, ive got a pcp gun now and it is fecking brilliant compared to the old springer.

HW100K/t in .177 or Theoben MFR .177, the theoben on shot count, HW on balance and silencer, both top notch kit, Ive had em all over the years daystates the whack and these two stand head and shoulders above all others

spring gun wise HW95k hard to beat, never got on with gas ram, some swear by em, but just not for me, weirauch best airgun maker imho

The one that you can shoot consecutively out to how many yards you require within a 5p time and time again upside down hanging off your left toe while pushing your lips together making sqeeking noises which sound nothing like rabbits just to try and get them to sit still

This is 14 shots from my Theoben SLR98 - two magazines - from 35 yards. It is a gasram multi-shot repeater, underlever cocking, but the magazine that went on to fuel the Rapid 7. Not off sandbags, stood, leaning over the car door. It does the job. The Rapid 12/200 is just awesome, better than the Huntsman, but each has their own strengths and characteristics.

The best air rifle for hunting is a highly personal choice. For me it's spring rifles forever! And my HW80 .22 FAC. My sub-12 ft/lbs HW77 .22 ...OR.. my .177 HW97K or my Air Arms TX200HC .177 will put a pellet through the skull of a small animal at reasonable range. No questions.

Personally, I'd go for BSA or Weihrauch, only until I can justify £1000+ for a PCP kit (inc divers tank).

 

Only making assumptions but if you're new to the sport, starting with a SPRINGER you'll come to appreciate PCP rifles a lot later

You could be experienced for all I know, so do bear with me on that.
