unlacedgecko 1,466
Getting the wood burner can cost you from £200 (for a cheapo 2nd hand) to £2000 plus. You will want on with a back boiler, a multi fuel stove would probably be best. Check the smoke regulations where you live. In the UK, some smoke control zones mean that only certain types of wood burners are allowed. They can be found on the DEFRA approved list. Obviously, they tend to be more expensive. I installed a 5Kw wood burner at my last house. Total spend was £1200 including cost of the wood burner, installation of the wood burner (including the chimney liner) and building the hearth. Im outside of uk, no restrictions. Heated the house im in now for almost 10 years with a second hand 8kw woodburner, its a stone house with no insulation on the walls use 10-12 m3 of oak/chesnut each winter. Current price per m3 dry and cut to length is about 55 euro. Got a lot of trees at the new place, so I reckon I wont use any more m3 per year, and should be able to fell Split and dry at least 50% of what we will need each year, if not all of it and sell a few m3 every year. (lots of big mature oaks, and will plant some fast growing stuff suitable).
trappa 518
Ive just ordered a wood burner, to be installed in a fortnight. The stove installed along with flue system was about £1200 (i think). It needs to be a defra approved stove to burn wood, and you need a hetas certificate as well.
