marshman 7,758
I wasn't going to post about any digs on here anymore but after reading stigs last thread I had a pang of guilt , I'm not much of a writer but here goes. Monday morning the digging gears in the boot the collars charged and I've got me new boots on . My mate and me are going to some of my permo that's always be lucky for us we always seem to have a dig there and it's not often we blank. We park up get the dogs outs and a quick walk to a bank of dirt that's basically an old rubbish tip that's got an earth on. We tried a dog that had made many mistakes last year but we thought we'd give him one last chance but, he done what he had always done which was mark to ground but was out as quick as he went in. So we tried my mates old bitch in she went straight away 5 mins past and no sound then 10 mins after half an hour eventually we could hear her baying away but it was very faint . It wasn't very deep but it was proper awkward you'd put the spade in and one spade of dirt and we hit an load of old rusty scaffold poles then another bit of dirt then a load of old carpet. We got the knife out cut that out then we hit an old dustbin that was squashed flat eventually we hit some hardcore we move that and got to his bitch removed and the fox was dispatched in accordance with the law. It wasn't the best dig or the worst but was definitely awkward lol. Sorry lads no pics and atb for the coming season cheers M. 12 Quote Link to post

Rat face 1,655
tips and old landfill sites are the worse we had a killer of a dig last year on one,it was on the edge of a old tip and it looked like a simple little dig when we dug down about 5 feet we hit a solid concrete slab so we dug on and on to find the edge when we did we was about 6 feet away from the dog under the 9inch slab that was a long day 1 Quote Link to post

Cleanspade 3,324
thanks for sharing marshman. some of the more interesting days out ive had have been in old farm dumps. you know the sort, full of old metal milk crates corrigated tin barbed wire and the odd car or farm impliment thrown in for good measure. .good heavy duty snips and a stihl where the order of the day and used more than the spade some unusual haunts for the foxes i remember are an old mg.midget car boot and one below an old tin bath. when we used to go out as youngsters we would go wherever our noses took us.. we had an assort hotch potch bunch of mongrels to start with. mostly family pets pressganged into service. its surprising how good some of these became. they where held back mostly due to our lack of experience. if young uns tried to enter fieldsports the way we did back then they would be lifted. 3 Quote Link to post

marshman 7,758
Mate I shudder when I think of some of the places we done when my mate and me were lads. Railway embankments , old tips still doing them lol. One time we had a dig in the back of an old folks home and the pensioners were watching us an not batting an eyelid as they drunk their cup of tea. Your spot on though young uns would get lifted if they done the same nowadays. Still I bet you wouldn't change a thing ? I know I wouldn't ! 4 Quote Link to post
