THE STIFFMEISTER 16,315
A friend of mine went to an after dinner speaking thing with Neil rudduck, predictably most of his tales were based on the Liverpool spice boys era of the 90s , my mate is a die hard koppite and although he didn't go , several of his friends and family were at both heysel and hillsborough , he left half way through the speech, and has rarely looked at football the same way, he was devastated by the demise of the moral fibre of players, ruddock apparently admitted to breaking Andy Coles leg on purpose, faking the intensity of the training the players were doing by spraying water on themselves to imitate sweat, bursting straight from games to catch the trains to London on a Saturday and possibly worst of all, the revelation that the fabled pass the pound game was carried out throughout the era, My mate left early, sick at the thought of the belief, the money and faith he had wasted in his club, whilst the players larged it and were content to be mediocre , obviously to the sky sports / loaded generation of fans, these tales were manner from lad heaven, but to the likes of him who were used to seeing the red men turning Europes best inside out on a regular basis over the previous twenty years, it was heartbreaking A little off topic, but I believe, and always will, that the fans deserve better
