courser 73
I have finally got my CZ .22 Hornet! The next problem is how do I break in the new barrel? I have read that you should fire one round then clean the barrel then fire another round and clean the barrel and so on for ten rounds, then fire five rounds and clean the barrel an so on for twenty rounds. This seems a bit excessive but if it must be done it must be done. Can anybody advise please. Courser. Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
Bullshit mate, just shoot the damn thing 20 rounds or so clean it, and enjoy, you have got an excellent rifle and calibre if you really want to get the best out of her, reload, flare the case neck, and crimp the bullet into place, you will have fun mate, enjoy Quote Link to post
courser 73
Thanks Charlie Caller, I think that I have got everything to reload, mostly Lee gear. I have the Lee factory crimping die along with sizing and seating dies etc, and I have just got a Lee universal flaring die. To begin with I want to get some practice at my local rifle club, to get to know the rifle They have a rule that you can only shoot lead bullets up a velocity of 1,700fps so reloading is a must. All I need now is some data for a forty grain lead bullet. Courser Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
You will find MANY rifle breaking in suggestions on the web, here is just one.... http://www.rifle-accuracy-reports.com/barrel-break-in.html Do what you like, you will get every comment going from, waste of time to essential. Who is right? The way I see it a bit of time and effort up front will do no harm and may well do some good, ignore advice and just shooting it may do harm. No brainer I see, I break in all my rifles, even .22lr, my rifles all shoot better than me. Your choice! 1 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
HMMM all the breaking in advice to me is nonsense the damn thing has already been fired quite a bit by the factory and the proof house, so what exactly are you "breaking in" hmmmmmm ? Quote Link to post

The factory "May" sample test the rifle, not many fire every one, and that will be ONE shot most likely. The proof house will fire 1 shot max out of your rifle, but they to are known to sample test a batch. It is infinitely possible your brand new rifle sitting on the shelf has never had a bullet through it at all, that's why many manufacturers tell you to clean all the delivery wax/oil/muck out of the barrel before you fire it!
