Ferret Calling

ive got 3 ferrets recently got them working and there good at it anyway I let them out to run in the garden everyday now one of the gills I can sqeek and she comes straight to me now ive never had this before is this a normal thing

Some of mine come to a squeak but not to their names.

ive never once thought theyd respond to names I might start trying that or are you winding me up see I had plenty of ferrets but this is the first time any have come

When ferreting we use long/stop nets, if a ferret comes out I leave it to make its own way over the set, if its going away I just scratch my over trousers and the ferret turns and comes to me,I was taught silence is a virtue when working a set.

i could do with some long nets only using purse nets at minit were woud i get some from at right money

Mine come to me if I squeak or if I rattle a plastic container with food in it. I just make the noise whenever I go to feed them. I have one that will sometimes come to a whistle as well

No joke mate! I've had many ferrets that come when I make squeaky noises but as I've had my current ferrets from 7/8 weeks old, I named them and got them used to being called their names from a young age. Just like you would give names to dogs and cats, ferrets are no different and do respond.

Is it separate names or the sound of your voice?

 

Mine will come to my voice.

 

The old Jill would come out of the warren when done and go and climb into her box and curl up.

Mine respond purely to their separate names. think its to do with being conditioned from 7 weeks. My jill on the other hand responds to my voice because I only just bought her 2 months ago and she's about 5 years old.
