charlie caller 3,654
They are not terribly interested in keeping your costs down I am afraid, more about public safety ect. Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
Appreciate that but if you have it have it granted anyway what difference does it make if you blast a few rabbits along the way? It's as the OP said, why shouldn't he be allowed to shoot a rabbit if he comes across one with his .223. Would be pretty much the same for me. Any application would be for deer / fox as good reason with other vermin as essentially a 2nd target species. I'm not arguing with what you say, it could well be difficult to get that on a 1st grant but if they're granting it you anyway, what's the difference? It's not as if they're keeping the rifle out of your hands. Edited September 24, 2013 by Alsone Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
I quite agree, I cant see the sense in it either, either you are fit to hold the thing or not, but that is the way they operate, ATM , lets hope things change, but being the cynic I am I cant see it. worthy130 21
After having this discussion with my FEO and BASC last year, the overall chief of licencing (in England somewhere) had a meeting last year and told ALL forces to allow AOLQ if asked for to cut down on paperwork for the forces (I am sure BASC will confirm this with you) there is no such thing as overkill.....dead is dead! Anyway after on BASC's instruction on this matter and a lengthy discussion with my FEO he EVENTULLY found the memo and granted it for all my rifles. Quote Link to post
geordieh 74
Hi guys Asked the licensing dept for aolq to be added to my licence and was refused it ,I have a 223 at the moment for fox control but have noticed a increase in the rabbit population so I asked for it to be added and was told the 223 is two powerfull ,now I don't belive in the overkill thing if the shot is taken and its safe ie solid back stops ,no chance of ricochet then I don,t see the problem job done. what are your thoughts on this.Ask them to put it in writing as you are going to take it further this often focuses their minds Geordie Quote Link to post

HIN 2
There should be some standard form for people to complete depending on their requests. It could be a lot easier than sending emails that are missunderstood. You were lucky this time, let's hope you will be as lucky in the future. Quote Link to post
