BIGLURKS 874
What dry food you feeding it Quote Link to post
matt1979 766
I would take it to the vets, but in the mean time don't feed it anything, as the most likely cause is a stomach/ digestive bug and feeding the dog will simply feed the bug also and the problem may get worse. pbrookes 450
Google campylobacter . All over round Doncaster area. Spreads like wildfire . Very similar symptoms to parvo. It's a type of food poisoning that can be passed to humans . Quote Link to post
islandhopper 11
White fish cooked and rice, or cooked chicken and rice mate, ATB. Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
If it's a bacterial infection then you'll need the appropriate antibiotics to clear it. If it's a virus, then it may go on its own, or if the pup has eaten something to cause food poisoning then a bland diet after starving for 24 hours to rest the gut may cure it, but if a pup has had bad diarrhoea for more than 24 hours I'd get it to a vet. Young dogs can die through dehydration if not seen to properly. the longer you leave it the more difficult it becomes to treat. We all have to learn through experience, but as it's your first dog I'd not take any risks. Each time our dogs have something wrong with them we learn a bit more, and how to recognise the danger signs in future. Hopefully your pup is not seriously ill. 1 Quote Link to post
Stretch177 39
Whenever I've had dogs with the trots I've fed them small meals 3/4 times a day, consisting of boiled white rice, bit of chicken breast and spoon of yoghurt, as well as fluids. The worst thing to do is starve the dog, especially with it being a puppy. For me dry food is terrible and I haven't fed it for years, too many additives and fillers IMO. Try the rice for a day or 2 and if the pup is still loose or looking weak then straight to the vets. Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
I think that if we're talking about very young pups, then it is important to keep up with some kind of nutrition, but a pup of 6 months old is not in that danger zone where it shouldn't miss a few meals. But it all depends on what exactly is wrong with it. Quote Link to post
clueless 11
Although you said the. Dog has the trots is it always runny or does she have a slid stool first and then have a couple of very soft/runny stools as my border sometimes goes this way and you have said its your first dog????
