jessdale 416
Anyone can set up as a trainer. The first thing i would look for in a trainer is a proven track record, because if their methods don't work for themselves they ain't going to work for you. Quote Link to post

I agree if i was to let someone else train my dog id be looking at his achievements beforehand and its not going to be cheap Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
Just out of intrest, how much do trainers charge and how do they charge? Is it per hour, per week or per subject etc? Quote Link to post
jessdale 416
Just out of intrest, how much do trainers charge and how do they charge? Is it per hour, per week or per subject etc? A lot of trainers are not worth a cup of cold piss. A "top" trialler charges £75 for a 1 hour assessment of your dog before charging £40 per hour for 1 to 1 lessons. 1 trainer charges £170 per week to train and board your dog but the trainer has never gained a single award in trials. The best trainer in the country charges £100 per week. There is a huge difference in prices and standard of trainer Edited October 14, 2013 by jessdale 1 Quote Link to post

gonetoearth 5,144
I met a gun dog trainer about 5 years ago sadly he is no longer with us , to say a lot of trainers Are not worth a cup of piss , then quote rates and compare them to trails won takes me back to my comments another gun dog thred. If your not in the click , there are many good dog men who will pass on there knowledge who have never reached the dizzy heights of field trial champion ship statues. The man i had the pleasure of meeting installed in me simple values and commands , thing is with gundog trainers is most think there good because people tell them there good , some never know how good they were as they were not in the click 2 Quote Link to post
ftm 3,357
ive owned dogs 35 yrs and think I know my fair share about "working" types only had gun dogs 5yrs and im fairly confident in my abilities to training them to a good standard ie beating picking up [not trial standard] -but most lads /lasses don't go as far as field trial route ,ive helped a few lads /lasses out with springer /cockers and wouldn't dream of charging them -I enjoy helping people out if it means they can one day help another out - money messes every thing up 2 Quote Link to post
