Gutted

Recommended Posts

My son is 8 months in to navy life and only comes home now and then,he has always been keen on shooting and is not a bad shot,i took him out last night for his first deer a munty buck i earmaked for him.We walked into a small clearing in the wood a little late really should have been sooner but as we came into the clearing there was a munty 100 yards in front of us,we got down and moved forward 10 yards to get a clear shot. When we looked back up there was three brown patchs and though the scope i could see munty doe and buck and a fox all within 10 yards of each other.I got my son to lay down behind the rifle and told him to take his time and go for heart shot when he stands side on ,the buck had a nice head and would have been a nice one for his first deer.Anyway the time came and i think he flinched to the shot and missed it clean he was so gutted he missed and so was i  but we all have missed, but try telling that to a young lad who really wants to shoot his first deer.I think i better get him onto a fallow buck next time thats a bit bigger target

+1 on missing first deer ......distraught ....couldn't believe I missed ..before the outing we had a rifle check I clover leafed 3 rounds at 100m ,different story when the hearts pumping & your not shooting holes in paper .I lifted my head to soon , result missed deer .Good luck to him next time out ..
