pie-eater 377
Every time he bites push your finger into his mouth a tiny bit. Not enough to hurt him just to make him gag. That only really works with kits! Very hard to push finger further into mouth when the bugger is already latched on if you are going to try that do it with wielding gloves. Yah point taken. I had a couple of well grown on jills that were fairly nippy. I coated my hands in bitter apple so they got the sour taste every time they bit and this put them off biting within a few days. joe14 98
I only use positive methods such as feeding little bits of meat. Even off the top of a clenched fist so he cant get grip. Same with the oil he should lick it off. If he bites shout no take away your hand. Re offer untill he learns biting = no treat. Dont show your scared but also dont just dart your hand towards him to pick him up let him sniff you first. Put a saucer of milk down or a whisked egg and stroke him whilst hes lapping it up. No milk for ferrets please! We've discussed this to death. They're lactose intolerant... Quote Link to post
rabbitcatcher 1 287
if it was ME id put some gloves on and handle him as much as possible, spit on your glove, let him lick it, do this a few times a day, feed him, so he knows the food is coming from you ect, and just persavier with him, im sure soon enough he'l be ok, iv had some nasty ferrets in the past and have always tamed them enough to work them, some can take longer than others, but they all come right in the end, ATB with him though mate FTS I would never spit on my hand for any ferret as you can pass colds/flu to the ferret or anything else and end up losing your ferret Rc1 1 Quote Link to post

Karl Daw 14
Against much protesting from me my lad bought a polecat hob from the local market. Admittedly he is a beauty and in very good condition, and only cost a fiver but when we got him home he turned into a bengal tiger! I dont think he has ever been handled and unless he is preoccupied with some meat you cannot touch him. I have had some wild ferrets in the past but this one means business! The question is should we persevere with him, or should i put him down? Does anyone have any ideas on how to calm him down sufficiently to be able to work him so we can see if he is worth keeping? Bitter apple spray mate it works a treat this will work i have had a couple real bitters. Quote Link to post
talt 878
That sounds interesting, where would i get it from? Quote Link to post

B.P.R 2,798
Why do you buy a ferret from a market?? Not everybody has friends with ferrets.... Or is willing to pay daft prices on gumtree.... Its irrelevant anyway... Quote Link to post
GreyRake 108
That sounds interesting, where would i get it from? Could mix some vinegar with some of that strong lemon juice used for cooking. Might do the job. Quote Link to post

Not sure if thats aimed at me or not. Anyway no I used it for a few days to put a couple of jills that hadn't been handled off biting. Every other ferret Ive ever had Ive used the usual method of pushing my finger further into their mouth everytime they nip. Quote Link to post

Not true that folk on Gumtree are just out to fleece you, its just a way of selling your stock AND they are sometimes given away free on these sites. Practically every ferret bought from a market has some kind of behavioural or other problem which I've witnessed and had to be passed onto a rescue or the like. if you know otherwise, then please be civil with replies and that goes for everyone lol Quote Link to post
