paulus 26
Well nearly half the voting population want to cut their nose to spite their face, that doesn't include the various small minded idiots who no doubt don't vote, and young kids who are very easily wound up. Though some English people may also be bitter because of the Scottish having their own parliament, free uni and prescriptions etc no different to the welsh! who is paying for it at the minute though

paulus 26
best i can gather, scotland's finances would be based on mainly oil revenue, but that is a very volatile market and is mainly owned by external companies and investors, also remember that scottish banks RBS and HBOS/Lloyds were bailed out to the tune of 65 billion pounds at the last crash, what would happen if it happened again
Joe67 239
how much does west minister depend on oil? what would happen if it was still britan and oil runs out??? oil will play a key part, scotland does make money elsewhere though, and MORE than pays its way

When banks which operate in more than one country require a bailout, the costs are shared in proportion to where the activities of those banks take place. So for example, RBS also received support from the US – while Fortis bank received support from Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg. In the case of RBS, 90% of its operations are in England and 10% are in Scotland. But what’s important is we learn from the UK’s mistakes – just like Sweden ensured there was no repeat of its own banking crisis in the early 1990s.
paulus 26
Think defense, all nuclear bases and subs would move south, all airfields would move south. all naval bases would move south, as they all belong to the UK, communities would be devastated,
Joe67 239
Hey you can pay for trident, no problem here... id rather those billions were spent on better things more scare mongering

We would continue to work in partnership with other nations. It would be for future Scottish Governments to shape a defence policy best suited to the country’s needs. Our defence profile could be similar to neighbouring nations such as Denmark, Sweden, Finland or Norway. Scotland’s contribution to UK defence spending is around £3.3billion. Experts from the Royal United Services Institute have confirmed that this would be more than enough to support a defence force that could be “extraordinarily good” by 2030. The UK Government only spend around £2 billion of the defence budget in Scotland. The SNP advocate a defence budget of £2.5 billion – less than we currently contribute, and more than is currently spent. We would get rid of Trident nuclear weapons from Scotland, saving money that could be bette spent elsewhere. Crucially, it would be for the Scottish Government to decide whether members of the Scottish defence forces should be sent abroad in support of international action

Malt 379
Funny how you independence lot keep coming out with the phrase 'scaremongering' whenever someone comes out with a possible negative consequence of the break up of the union.. It ain't going to be oil, bagpipes, whisky and shortbread all round if the SNP do get their way.. No matter which way you look at something like this there's bound to be be pros and cons. Dismissing all possible cons as 'scaremongering' is damn right foolish IMO..
