having been a fan for decades i see a time nearing when the show v working type have as big a difference as show v working / racing greyhound, granted the show guys are breeding more to an almost wolf

i can trace mine back i think on the deerhound / lurcher side 8 generations or so and obviously more on the greyhound side, they've all worked way pre ban but thats not the point of this thread, altho

to be honest most of th dh x owners on hear never bitch with eacher other or brag they just get on with things but someone will come along and spoil it who has never owned a dh x in there life or seen one run and come out with some silly statement saying there too big for rabbits and turn like a buss

The size and hunting ability of the deerhound has always been a very controversial issue with many deerhound owners and breeders.

Might be an interesting read for some of you.

indeed very interesting

although they seem to disagree on a few points the thing that struck me was an almost universal call for proper judges or at least judge education, it seems show goers recognise breed failings too and realise that if successful hounds from the showring were of the right conformation and size it would help the breed

Exactly. I'd feel cheated if a DH x didn't have some size to them.

But there's "size" and there's size.

My deerhound is 32" she's the smallest in the litter.

without nit picking or trying to piss anybody off, how many have actually got this type an use it other than to put up pretty pics an parade it about on a lead cos it looks like the romantic lurcher type? anything less than a good few hundred bunnys a season at the very least and you may aswell have lurchers imo as lets face it not many are running the land they was designed for never mind quarry.....
