Ratreeper 441
I would like to buy some good quality japanese whetstones without paying for a brand or generally getting overcharged. Can anyone recommend a good company to buy good quality stones? I was thinking of getting something like an 800/3000 5000/8000 and then something like this slate at around 15000 grains http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NATURAL-WIDE-WELSH-SLATE-RAZOR-HONE-15k-SHARPENING-STONE-with-slurry-stone-/181216688283?pt=UK_Kitchen_Accessories&hash=item2a315b389b Any advice? hyperion 122
Car boot sale! I know the jap ones are good but to be honest a 50p carboot whetstone and an old leather belt will do the job just as well! If you really want all the faff of Japanese stones and what not then fine but you can get a decent enough edge from an old lump of roof slate and a bit of cardboard as a strop! midnight 657
Nasty !! Get what ever works !! If I wanted a great edge but had about £4 budget I'd got to halfords buy some 600 grit and 800grit wet and dry. . Wrap some cloth round the handle and put the knife in the vice then wrap the sandpaper round something hard like a chisel and work the blade like that . 400 on both sides then 800 on both sides . Couldn't be easier
