jhiggins 48
Morning all, Got a 13 month old lurcher bitch that is coming into season for the second time. It is about the right time for her to come in as she had her first season in March time. However, her last season left her with a phantom that kicked the crap out of her physically and really slowed her progress. I have just got her back into reasonable shape and here comes her season again.....gutted. Is there anything i can do to minimize the risk of another phantom or could I delay her season somehow until after the hunting season? I have heard about putting her on the pill but im not sure how to go about this. Any information will be much appreciated J Quote Link to post
riohog 5,701
you may laff at what im about to say, but many say a bitch is not right for 100 days after a season imo they are about right Quote Link to post
lurchers2533 22
theres a injection the vets can give that stops them going into season think its pretty pricey an they will only usually do it once but worth looking into pal good luck Quote Link to post

brazer 287
Raspberry leaf is another alternative in preventing phantom pregnancies in bitches who are prone to this condition. The correct dosage should be given to the bitch from the first sign of coming into season and continued for a further 12 weeks for safe measures. 1 Quote Link to post
bedwhippet 164
I've got a pup 15 month old never had her first season, I was told that if kept really fit that can stop her coming in, is that true or is she just a late starter?? Sorry to hijack thread Edited September 22, 2013 by bedwhippet Quote Link to post

Sorry to hijack thread It's not that unusual to come in late and I am sure she will given time. Often if a bitch is kept too fit it can stop them from coming in to season. Quote Link to post
bedwhippet 164
Thanks for that probs why she is very late then, all other bitches in the litter have had there first seasons so I was just thinking she maybe wouldn't come in,, hopefully won't be coming in for a few months now season is underway Quote Link to post

Thanks You will get the Raspberry leaf tablets in Holland and Barret. Its 2 tablets per day for small dogs under 10kg. Med dogs 10-25kg = 4-6 tablets daily Large dogs 25-45kg = 6-8 tablets daily Giant breeds above 45kg = 8-12 tablets daily These are the recommended dose for phantom pregnancies and should be giving at the start of the bitch coming into season and for a further 12 weeks. they may be crushed for easy administration. Should you have any problems consult your vet. Quote Link to post
