Sad news. He was a big part of the best era in heavy weight boxing IMO.

Not only did he beat Ali , didn't he break his jaw in the process.

Norton was a good and gifted fighter in an era many regard as the best ever for heavyweights. Some physical specimen too...

yeh i think he did, and at the time i think Ali said after shavers, norton was the hardest hitter.And when you look at some of Ali fights Ali could bang a bit.?

Clay waved away the notion of taking the 4 round rule (and thus going the distance) when fighting Norton, whilst knowing his jaw was broken...he said he knew how much stick he'd get for stepping out.

 

Bundini Brown told a beltin anecdote around that fight and the fact a white red-headed female, had.. a couple of fights before took it upon herself to sit ringside and berrate clay non stop....always dressed in a velvet green outfit. He said when the norton fight was over so drunk was she.. she was screaming 'the new white hevyweight champion of the world Kennny Norton' said clay could barely speak but wagged his finger her way (on the out) and uttered in her drunken ear 'Miss Velvet Green, the most evilest bitch i have ever seen'

Seemed a nice fella Ken Norton i remember watching a video where he talked about life and boxing he was very honest he said he only took up boxing to avoid going in the marines,he didnt think he was very good but really worked on his physical strength and power as he felt it was the only thing he had going for him.

Ali just couldnt suss out Nortons crab like style......i still think the 9th or 10th round i cant quite remember which against Larry Holmes was one of the best rounds in heavyweight history...................crazy the way its working out looks like Ali might outlive the other 3 where at one point youd of put your money on him checking out first..........RIP Ken Norton.

He was robotic in his style an awesome physic and like some one has said used the x guard . As a block Heavey on his feet but gave ali a rough ride another of the greatest era bites the dust dong dong dong dong dong dong dong dong dong DONG RIP big man

We had alot of great boxers in his era and Ken Norton was one of the very best.
