neems 2,406
Its simple, take the f*****g thing away !!!.........like Socks said, I have never allowed my kids to have a "games console" and they don't actually give a shit.........they do sport and Ju Jitsu and ride horses and go fishing and do homework and chores and they manage to still be alive Shape up mate, bloody hell ! My parents were the same,so I just played them at my mates houses. my parents not letting me have them just made me more addicted to them when I could play them. That's why I won't ban them entirely. NEWKID 27,376
I'm strict on my kids as far as exposure to adult themed Films or games etc... My eldest girl is 15 in a couple of months and I've only just started letting her watch 15 rated films, no way would I let her watch an 18 ... dare 1,103
Think everyone knows its better for a kid to be kept busy doing things in the real world. Is easy to get addicted to gaming. I've had a break now but the fiend in me will come back when the new Xbox one is out. Before I was working I'd easily wake up at say 10am and still be on the console by 4am the next day. Used not just play online but enter leagues. Would be a team of us and every map everyone would know their position. Wouldn't even have to talk soon as one of us was down we knew where the enemy was. For most it's abit of fun but I like to think of it as a sport lol. Cod ghosts on the new Xbox when out, search and destroy ill give anyone upto a onner 3 to 1 odds. As for the game being violent and showing things such as drugs, can understand really young kids. Before a kid hits 18 though they are aware about sex drugs and violence anyway. It's a game which doesn't send you out on a killing spree unless you already had a couple screws loose anyway. Better to educate than shelter and pretend it aint out there in the big bad real world. Limiting the console time is a good thing but its also the way kids socialise now days. My sisters constantly on FaceTime on her iPad. I remember the days when you had to knock on your mates door and make sure you said please when asking if they are in. Even mobiles mean the kids of today don't have to call the house phone. NEWKID 27,376
No doubt times have changes Dare, and there moving quickly.... But kids are still kids that doesn't change.... I don't need a computer game or DVD with crass sex scenes and over the top violence to educate my kids.... My eldest has and will talk openly with me or my wife ( more often the missus admittedly lol)... She won't get bollocked for teenage mistakes and she knows that... It's a parents job to educate not sit then infront if the telly to learn IMO..

dare 1,103
Was a social thing with me and my mates, would be a group of us on the mic while gaming. Chatting about every day normal stuff and the game would add abit of a laugh while your doing it. It did go abit to far though with the addiction. Soon as the new Xbox lands I've got the money put away for a new tele and won't be going for the cheap shit. Was really into of gaming but was fed up of the competition not being equal enough due to graphics cards. Xbox we all got the same system only difference would be tele and headset(given myself 150budget for those). Sounds expensive but it'll last and is something I enjoy. The break down of our online group was raving lol. Refused to stay in on Halloween as we thought it'll be birds in fancy dress. Left to the last minute and ended up going to a warehouse. None my mates had dropped an e before but I knew I wasn't doing 10hours of drum n bass without it. Ended up dropping 2 and felt nothing so done another 4...then I started to come up lol. I didnt even go inside the rave once I spent the whole night chewing my face with my eyes rolling in the smoking area unable to stand. Was the worst I've ever been on them although I felt great. After that we started going every weekend. Mates let the drugs change them though and was getting on it every day almost and made me think time to call it a day. Now I sometimes feel old mates are still raving and I'm just working and saving money but it'll pay of in the end. Anyway way of subject lol it's your kids noone can tell you what to do. Bring them up how you wish and hope the best for em

My mates parents would let us play them at their houses before then though and it was novelty for me,so when I got one myself it took a long time for the novelty to wear off. kruby01 114
I was always allowed games consoles and my parents weren't too bothered about ratings either. However being caught with an air rifle and I was in major shit! My mum hated me fishing or going messing about in fields. I always got the new consoles for my birthday and then sold them about a week later to get some fishing stuff or by guns to replace the guns my mum had found and smashed up in the bin. I now hate games consoles and love being outdoors hunting or fishing. I'm 23 and my mum even stopped her friend countersigning my SGC. She knows its none of her business as I've been under my own roof for 8 years but she still tries to stop it. Backwards....
