How to tie a horse in a standing stall?

This is my problem. I understand a rope from either side is the idea. Preferably lightly weighted, so they remain as short as possible, yet will run out long enough to allow the horse to lay down.

Trouble is; My stalls are old fashioned cattle stalls. The side walls aren't high enough to get a rope at the height needed to allow sufficient length.

(I'm assuming, if you're reading this and may be capable of solving it, then you'll be able to grasp what I'm saying. Anyone else's mind will probably have melted already! My own's not far off!)

I'm really wondering if there'd be any way of rigging a suitable works in front. Horses would be facing a higher wall, in front. And, that wall is across a narrow walk way.

What ye reckon? Two, widely spaced, rings, higher in that wall? Form a sort of 'V' to the horses head. Rather than the more usual - Horses head - affair.

Well, thanks for your patience, while I just talked myself through that one. I'll go out there, presently, and shall stand and look at the wall. It'll probably help a great deal to be looking at the situation.

Could I not just use a single, counter weighted, rope? :hmm: Chain behind the horse, to stop it backing out of the stall? If not; Why not?

Be really glad of any, more knowledgeable, input.

Thanks.

Cheers, BB. I'll give that a try ;)

I've spoken to a horse woman friend of mine, on another forum. Frankly? It's amazing the low levels of apparent knowledge left on this subject!

Time was ~ when horses were more common that vans, I s'pose ~ there were shit loads of horses left to quietly stand in a stall for the night. Much like a motor put in a garage.

Like thousands of people tethered their horses, on a chain and collar, to graze on unfenced land. Now seen as unthinkable, by the chattering classes.

F**king world's gone mad alright.
