Bedlington X Whippet Vs Whippet.

Hi everyone. I'm interested in rabbiting, going to be buying dogs very soon. Gonna get a JRT and a small lurcher or whippet. Think I'm going to get the terrier trained first then get the lurcher or whippet. Just wanted anyone with experience to comment on what a whippet would be better at and what a beddy whippet would be better at. Pros and cons really. Thanks.

What are you intending doing with the lurcher,,,just working alongside the bushing terrier? Or possibly lamping etc? What type of ground you wanting to work the dog on?

3/4 whippet x 1/4 bedlington great little dogs good coat. The one I went out with was a demoned at ferreting but lacked the top gear when running open spaces. Cover meant nothing to hear would just crash though.

 

As for whippet never worked one personally but plenty of guys on hear have who will have plenty of experience.

have you thought about getting a jrt x whippet instead of just a jrt

Mainly daytime mooching. I doubt I'll do much lamping but it's a possibility. Mainly on farmland, some woodland and some densely covered areas. I don't have ferrets but my friends do. All in all the dog will be mainly worked with the terrier during the daytime. Thanks for advice guys.

A 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy would be a good choice as already mentioned, not best of both worlds but a very good compromise, buster.

I'll definitely look at a 3/4 whippet. What benefits does the Bedlington bring? What does it do that the whippet won't? know this is in the lurcher discussion page but any views on long or short legged jrts would be appreciated too.

my ferreting bud keeps, works and breeds a smart leggy strain of jrt, a pleasure to work with, easy to spot in cover and work really well with lurchers

That JRT whippet looks good. How does crossing the beddy over the whippet effect it? I was thinking long legged JRT so I think I'll go for that. Just the whippet or beddy whippet to decide between really.
