Guest king ratcatcher
buy a tin of catfood and liquidise it in the blender, or get a tin of sweetcorn, blend it up and put some cake flavouring in Edited August 31, 2007 by king ratcatcher Quote Link to post
Magpie 102
Any old shite should do the trick. Last I knew rats weren't to fussy about what they ate. As BT says try putting some mesh round your bait, maybe popping it into a wire birdfeeder so as the rats have to work at it, giving you time for a clear shot and you'll need a clear shot too. Back in the dark old days when I still shot at things I'd have a pop at a few rats, unless you get a clear head or chest cavity shot you wont kill it. It's more likely to run of screaming to die a painful slow death underground. Now whether its a rat or anything else, it doesn't deserve to die that way does it. Personally I think you'd be better off ringing the shed in chicken wire and slipping a ferret underneath and allowing someones terrier the opportunity to do the dispatching. There's no in between with a dog it either dead or it gets away, simple as really. Quote Link to post

stubby 175
are you sure they are rats and not water voles, very simular in appearance but the voles are protected check shape of head, ears, tails etc, if they are too fast to get a shot, have you identified them correctly Quote Link to post
bullmastiff 615
That's a good point Stubby If it is rats then try smooth peanut butter, the little buggers will stand around licking at it for ages! and once they've got a taste it doesn't matter if you miss, they'll soon come straight back Quote Link to post

marko 30
buy a tin of catfood and liquidise it in the blender, this is a great idea and works plus the f***ers cant carry it off as easily and have to sit a bit longer giving you a better chance, have you tried a deben lamp on the gun with a dimmer.
