Derek1962 50
Hi all, only joined yesterday so looking forward to reading the posts and hopefully can add a few idea,s of my own, well i have been into lurchers and terriers for the last 30 years, from ferretting to lamping and on to coursing lurchers,i have bred most cross breeds and am still trying my hand at other breeds, the best i found in the lurcher world [in my opinion] was the collie greyhound [first cross] for ferretting ,bushing and lamping.the second cross moved up a gear or two.,some breeds i bred and would,nt go down that road again was the pit x greyhound,as i found that most of these lurchers would do any job you put up to them but they were a liability with terriers when they were out hunting as most didnt care what they took hold off,the best for coursing i thing were the suluki x greyhound [first and second crosses]the bitches on the first cross were fast and loads of stamina where the dogs from these litters were a bit slower but had more than plenty of stamina,i am sure i will get a few replys from lads on here stating that their suluki crosses are all rounders but i am just going by what i have bred over the years,i keep a few terriers,a old type kennel terrier and a patterdale cross,i used to keep a few full patterdales but i found some are really hard and find they were a bit head strong when facing anything underground,so it meant any time you had them out working chances were they laid off for a month to let their wounds heal,so i found the russell x patterdale [for me] had a bit more brain when facing charlie in complete darkness, and would speak very loudly and chance a bite every now and again at his foe,i am at the moment have my kennel terrier in pup to a working beddlington terrier so i am looking forward to see what these turn out like, Derek.
