beattie 0
hi folks I'm new to this and have just joined. Wondered if anyone could advise me on the Night force scopes. Are they as good as they say they are? Cheers Tam Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
I like mine very much, NXS 5.5-22x56 on a .223, has accounted for plenty of foxes. Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
Depends on what bit you mean. If you mean they are built like a tank, and repeat their dialing [tracking] perfectly, ...then yes. If you mean their optical quality, then, no.They are jap lenses at german prices, and from this viewpoint, they are a rip off. Before i get pulled to bits, i,ve put my money where my mouth is. I own a 12-42 x56 NXS nightforce, and a schmidt and bender 5-25 x56 pm11 [the big one] for £300 difference, the s+b pisses allover the nxs at any range, optically, especially at 1000 yards. beattie 0
Hi. Thanks for your replies. I think will just stick with the S & B as I have one already on my 223. Thanks again. Beattie Quote Link to post
Tikka T3 0
hi ive got nxs on both my centre fires and got to speak as i find them crystal clear .im very happy with mine if they wasnt that good why do swat teams and military use these as i dont think costs come in to play with professional bodies. and they are certaily selling plenty in my local gun shop .and i got to say that i really do like the mlr reticle german as we all know are tops but i think that when you get to that sort of money thay are much a par and as most shots are taken at around 100 to 200 yards they are all you need. regards t3 Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
The distances that swat shoots within is in the region of 100 to two hundred yards in urban areas. Also professional bodies haves budgets too. yes they are great build quality, hold zero, etc, Try the 700 to 1000 yard mark even if you don't shoot pick something out and then the difference will show...... Tikka T3 0
hi all the lads around my neck of the woods use these .i was looking through mine yesterday evening while sitting out they will take some beating for sure. looking around out to several hundred yards clear as a bell .looked at the pm11 that baldie mentioned nice scope but no noticable difference to my eyes like i said most professional teams use them we cant all be wrong can we ? t3 Quote Link to post
Alex_W 0
Look at what a proper military sniper uses on a rifle - it's not a Nightforce. I spent a good few years in the military, and we used German optics every time. Neither the US M25 or M40 sniper set-up, nor the British L96, nor the German PSG-1 uses Jap optics. In fact, I believe the Yanks have now opted for the Leupold Mk 4, having ditched US Optics. You cannot compare a police marksman with a military sniper. SNAP SHOT 194
the yanks now use the leupold mk4 N4 so i believe... on some of their weapons.... Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
The one and only reason nightforce are such a big seller, is because non of the german firms make a hi magnification scope like the 12-42 nxs....until now.S+B are bringing out a 10-50 version of the ft scope, suitably parallaxed for fullbore. It will finish the nxs. There is no comparison side by side, the s+b is in a different league [i have them both] Dont get me wrong, nightforce are very good indeed, but they are overpriced for what they are..jap...when a couple of hundred more will buy the very best in the world. The only country you dont see s+b,s much, is america, and thats mainly because they wont pay that sort of money, and mainly because they dont like buying anything european, especially german. SNAP SHOT 194
baldie any idea of price for the s+b 10-50, when it comes out.......sounds excellent already. Quote Link to post
Alex_W 0
OK granted, Snap Shot, I appreciate your point, but the Mk4 is obviously sufficient for a regular USMC marksman. Quote Link to post
Tikka T3 0
listen lads its all down to personal choice .who the hell is going to shoot 700 to 1000 yards anyway as i said earlier i have a pair of nxs and are over the moon with them .they have every thing a fox shooter requires . and i can assure you that the military snipers use them .again down to personal choice .so buy what you like personally and we will all be happy.and talking about jap quality look at the new howa rifles shit hot super accurate . have a nice day Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
I shoot 700 -1000 yards regularly....at targets. Your quite right, the nxs,s are an excellent scope, and will do anything a fox shooter requires. The point i,m making, is they are optically inferior to a schmidt, but cost almost as much. That is partly due to being an american import, and the importer in this country is extremely greedy. The new s+b will probarbly be in the £1600 ball park i would guess. The smaller nxs, like the 5-22 powers etc, are nice scopes, and i prefer their rets to the schmidts. Like tikka says, you have to get the one YOU like, and good luck . Quote Link to post
