Single Or Double

Recommended Posts

Double or semi as you need the extra shots as bolting rabbits are very difficult to hit unless the terrain is very even. I'd err to double as its more flexible than a semi due to some shoots frowning on them. On the other hand, semis recoil less.

To be honest I struggle to see the justification for single barrel shotguns generally. They have a niche use but it is very small in my opinion, and the lack of weight seems to also make them potentially uncomfortable to shoot. I have one, got it at the Game Fair must be 4, maybe 5 years ago now, cost the princely sum of £25 so I thought why not, I have found out why not since, gave it to my lad for safe keeping a couple of years back now as it was just clogging up the cabinet!

I'm not trying to put a case for FAC shotguns but I feel semis are the route for a lot of field/vermin requirements. Must be about 6-7 years back I remember being out with a pal who was a few paces behind me when I let go 1 ---- 2 ---- 3 from my semi, only to be greeted with derision for taking 3 goes at a rabbit, until a few paces further on we picked up 3 rabbits! :D:D:D

id suggest just use what you know you shoot well with. obviously the more shots the better because bolting rabbits can be like busses, you wait for one for ages then three come at once! I use a fac multi shot now but then i'm paid to get rid of them but when I was a boy I had a single four ten and had just as much fun using that.

The only good thing about a single barrel shotgun is the price ,miss your shot and your fcuked but with a double you still have a chance and if two bolt you might get both , but till you get your eye in you might fire two shots all the time

that looks like an el chimbo marketed in the uk as Parkemy 2 1/2 inch chambers, full and full choke and fully folding. a 410 is a useful tool but frustrating for a novice as you have to be 110% more accurate than you do with a 12g

You'll rapidly get sick of missing rabbits with that imo. Get a cheap double barrel 12 or 20 bore. Should be able to get one for 100 quid.

Fourtens are great fun for squirrels, rats and mooching around hedgerows after rabbits but no way would I be picking a fourten up for bolted rabbits.
