By standard of athelete neems do you mean fitness/conditioning ?? because if you do then thats a silly point imo. Those lads who are serious at it and fight at world level put just as much in as a world class boxer or any other world class sportsman/woman does in their chosen sport.

talent wise,fitness included.

I think they're at least as dedicated, because whatever level they reach they'll still need a job to support themselves.

I know of lads who've earned more through unlicensed boxing than some world class Thai boxers.

Money is Money

Fighting is Fighting

Just because one discipline pays more than another does not mean its a better, harder, tougher more effective form of combat.

It just means its better promoted and more people worldwide will pay to watch it.

And to say a Boxer is better Conditioned than a Muay Thai Fighter is rubbish.

Their are 8 weapons to Muay Thai

They used to be 9 ie, the Head.

2 Feet/Legs

2 Fists

2 Elbows

2 Knees

Those at the Top are Brutal

They Tough as Fook

Real Warriors

And i doubt they come much more Fit and Conditioned.

Look up a Guy called Bukhaow and tell me he aint conditioned and their has been Fighters that would make ten of him.

Money brings talent.

If you had an amazing athlete who's got a talent for combat sports,as they reached the higher level in whatever sport they chose they'd gravitate more toward either mma or boxing.

Most of the best fighters in Muay Thai I've met have done that,I believe Ricky hatton started out in Muay Thai.

regardless of what the Thais say Muay Thai is a form of kickboxing,it is the most dangerous style and probably the second most effective after San shou.

If you doubt that spar any pure Thai boxer with heel hooks and all throws allowed.

Edit to add I assume fury would be competing full contact kickboxing, the type with moon boots and trousers.

Vitali klitschko has a fight on YouTube fighting in that style, there is isn't really any other techniques to worry a boxer in that style, that's why in that discipline they brought in rules to stop ex pro boxer cleaning up.

What you lads are forgetting when talking about conditioning for the combat sports is that a fighter like Mayweather will cut absolutely no corners whatsoever in preparation.....with the type of wealt

Yeah,Hayes clearly indiginous to our Isles...

Seen kwok take a thai kid on one day, the thai kid was well conditioned but a bit too relaint on matchpower, kwok took him out with one hit (toe poke to the front left ankle/right knee collapsed). I offered him a great deal of money many times to run thru the rudi's of the trick but i could'nt free his tongue.Intresting fella, psychiatric doctor in the nut-nut gaff.

Always felt boxing @ it's finest was a lot more pleasing to the eye than muay thai

i cant help but liken davidhayes style to steve cunningham, short heavy set, not tall for a heavy weight, probably a natural cruiser likes to come from the outside with big right hands/overhand rights...and that was his wake up call in the cunningham fight.

credit where its due the big daft sod came back to win it, hat off to him there...but im not sure if he'd have gotten up from a haye over hand right. we will see.

What you lads are forgetting when talking about conditioning for the combat sports is that a fighter like Mayweather will cut absolutely no corners whatsoever in preparation.....with the type of wealth top fighters have ( which top fighters in other fight sports dont have ) comes things like specialist chefs following you about cooking every meal to exact standards throughout a 10 week camp......top notch masseuse.....top notch doctors/health specialists doing blood counts every day.......simple things like being able to pay to take close friends away on training camp with you meaning boredom doesnt set in.........loads of things that are all on top of the blood sweat and tears every fighter has to go through in training camp........but its these little things that wealth bring with them that add up to a better conditioned fighter.

Ive been saying for a number of years now i think its time we went back to 15 round contests.......12 rounds is no longer a sufficient test of straight stamina for these top guys now due to todays scientific improvements in training/nutrition......the safety aspect isnt the issue anymore what with day before weigh ins so i cant see any reason not to go back to 15 round fights and bring the stamina/durability aspect back more into a fighters make up.......we,re seeing fighters coast to easy points wins ending with plenty left in the tank.....where years ago any fight that went the 15 round distance was a hard fought battle hence why the last 3 rounds were always called " the championship rounds ".

did mma, muay thai and brazillian jiu jitsu for around 2 years...the 'my sport is better than your sport' bores me to hell.

johnny wilkinson will beat steven gerrard at a game of rugby...likewise, put them against each other in a game off football, and gerrard will win. stupid argument. different sports.
