A Night Of Madness.

After Reading a few of daz39's write ups i thought i'd post my mistakes so hopefully someone wont make them.

Turned up at my permission at 6.30 and thought i would get a sneaky hour in, i should have known things weren't going to go well when my normal parking space was taken. i saw some kids on the road that runs across the back of the field so i thought i would carry the rifle in it's case discretely over the wall They saw me and started shouting "there's a man jumping over the wall" i ignored them and unzipped the bag, loaded a pellet as i saw a rabbit hugging a wall 25 ish yards away. I dropped to one knee and ready was ready to take the shot when a bloke who has nothing to with the land i was on shouted " Do you have permission to be there" very angrily i might add. so rather than returning in kind i produced my written permission. Next he started asking how long i was going to be and other stupid questions so i then told him to take a hike.

i was not only mad that he was being nosy and getting involved in something that has nothing to do with him, but my rabbit had scarpered!!

trying to put that behind my i walked down to front of the field and turned a corner where i know there is normally a rabbit or two kicking around and sure enough there was one 10 yards away that stared at me but didn't bolt, here is the BIG mistake, i has holding my rifle low by my side so by the time i got it shouldered bugs bunny was off. Not learning the first time i did this two other times.

Lesson Learned, when turning a corner and you expect to see a rabbit make sure your ready to take a shot!!!

The heavens opened and it was getting dark so i walked back to the truck feeling mad and disappointed that i had mucked up what should have been 3 rabbits in the bag!!!

p.s Sorry it's so wordy

Hi dan first off if there is eny one around do not get your rifle out especially if kids are around as they are unpredictable and could of jumped over the wall and into the line of fire if your pray had still been there or they could of gone home and said IV SEEN A MAN WITH A GUN and the hole armed response squad would come down on you the same apply,s to the gent that was asking you questions all ways be polite and Curtice,s even if you want to smack him one as he can fetch a hole lot of trouble down on you to iv been there my self on more than one occasion. If you know where the rabbits are all ways walk up quietly and peek round the corner and raise the rifle slowly no sudden movements i staked one this morning half way across a field and it ran into a little wooded aria and was standing on its back legs with its ears up listening for me so i rested the rifle half way down the fence and took it out but if i had stood up it would of taken off you will learn as you go mate by your own mistakes atvbmac :thumbs::thumbs:

Thanks mate good to know even the experienced among us aren't perfect, if i thought that i would lose all hope and give up.

I don't really do sleep so i'm OK there , just need more time in the proverbial saddle to hone the craft!

Cheers mac, just want to clarify The rifle stayed in the Bag till i was over a 4 foot wall and away from the road, i know what folk are like and realize too that my actions don't just reflect on me but all who shoot. just look at the mess up in Scotland because of a few people. the kids couldn't tell what it was i had but the bloke obviously put long bag and camo together and figured what was going on. I did try to be polite

Couple of footpaths on one of my perms and it backs onto a row of houses and iv spoke to a few of them while shooting or getting out of the car and they have all been alright. Was out last night waiting over a warren which backs on to a back garden and the guy just walked down and dog took off with my rabbits but had a chat and was a canny guy was happy to for me to shoot the rabbits and asked if I could do anything with the foxes but my reply was not with this rifle... That's up to the shooting party which have the shooting rights to the land I only have the vermin rights by method of my choice and the foxes don't really effect the farmer so wasn't asked me to do anything with them. Messing with my shooting though so might have to have a chat with the shooting party

Sorry going off course lmao you soon realise the ones which are fine and which are cocks
