Tornado1979 145
Well I finished work at 19:00 and checked my phone, I had a missed call from a friend and after returning the call he fancied a random night out lamping (on a school night??), I turned a night down last week so had to go, I'm learning so much from him each night I go out, so I agreed and then had the dreaded call to the wife whilst on my route home "don't bother with any tea babe I'm off out with gun for a few hour"..... Yes you guessed right she was not impressed and the call soon ended. anyway my master turned up just has I was switching from work uniform to camo gear, but I was straight out of the door, we went to check my new permission out first, all the way there I was telling him what a nice bit of land it was and we walked all 250 acres and didn't see one rabbit ??? He was not impressed.... We then headed back towards our village to one of his permissions, we parked the van up at entrance, I grabbed my HW100 and he got his .22LR Annie out, he placed his high powered red lamp into field and spotted a rabbit easy 60+ yards took the shoot and wiped the rabbit straight out, wow I was just wishing I had a .22LR also, then a few yards up another long range shot and massive thud taking the bunny straight out, I felt like I was just there for the laugh and had no chance in the massive open fields, he continued to take another 3 rabbits out. By this time all I was thinking was that I need my FAC like tomorrow and I was getting so frustrated….Then we started getting into the built up area’s and my friend would not take the shot due to limited back drop etc, so this is when the HW100 come into play… I noticed a rabbit a 25yards on edge of garden, I dropped to my knee and landed a perfect head shot, the rabbit didn’t flip or jump it just wiped it straight out, we then walked on and by this time my game bag was starting to get very heavy, obviously I was carrying all his rabbits too (being the trainee). I continued and got 3 more, but couldn’t recover one when it bounced under massive bush. Throughout the permission we kept switching and tonight just showed me how good the .22LR is for lamping, but also how restricted you can be in built-up area’s and the advantage the HW100 had over the .22LR, looks like I’ll have to have both in nr future. The .22LR is going to give me better results with reducing bunny numbers, but the HW100 is more of a challenge in my opinion when you land that shot more satisfying (if that makes sense). Totally agree mate, just not good when your with someone with a .22LR he gets shots first due to distance, any eyes which we spotted were all over 50+ yards and before I had chance to stalk it was dead Quote Link to post
