Guest WILF
Is this Mr Nuttall's fault then ? has he, a breeder of terriers let the working terrier world down by not breeding the same terriers he did 30 years ago ? No Nelson mate.........from what I have read of this thread, he has let the working terrier down by taking the 30 bits of silver Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
I understand what you mean about the money part Wilf old flower, my point is why has no-one else got this same tackle alive and kicking today Yep, Nelson, it's something that's had me wondering too......For the past 25 years people have talked about 'old' Nuttall stuff and how good these dogs were but I have yet to meet or hear from anyone who has kept this stuff pure? Brian Nuttall has said to me that his dogs are no different to the dogs of yesteryear except in size, so what were the qualities of these former dogs that merrit so much debate? If this 'old' stuff was so good and so readily available then surely people would have kept 'pure' lines? We hear all to often how dogs have old Nuttall blood in 'em but it's always way down the line...... Witnessing dogs from Brian work, most were far to hard for their size, though a dog bred out of 'Miner' and much bigger than his sire done well over a few seasons, retiring early due to the punishment he took. I like Brian Nuttall and have a lot of respect for the man, whatever people say about his dogs or his breeding. As for old an new Nuttall stuff i've seen nothing that would be proof to this except size. Yer pays yer money and takes yer choice........mine would be for a dog out of working parents, dug regular and good working lines. Cheers Quote Link to post
Guest bitsa lurcher
Hello Shay/Darcy Yes, both comments very true, there is still plenty of working blood about, I know I give the russels a bit of stick but there are a few still knocking about, but to be honest I do not know of a line of workers, do you? Don't think theres THAT many white digging dogs in england..... i spent a long time looking for them but they not as common as blacks and other patts.....as for "pure" russells, i beleive what i see, i did hear of one line but i soon realised they were all doubled up. I once dug a fox with a lads russell and it did ok, but the next week we dug it and we were 6 foot off! And this is his "main" stud dog...... Like i say, beleive what you see...not what you hear or read IMHO....especially so with terriers... JD , does the above statement include wales ? coz if it does i've got 2 white terriers , 1 of which is young and learning his trade , and 1 of which i have dug to on numerous occassion's and every time i have dug to the dog he is about 2 or 3 feet away from his quarry ....i class this as sense ........what do you think ? Personally I class it as not worth the dog food, how can any serious terrierman hold such a dog in regard when trenching on is inevitably required, what do you do when you have had a stiff 6/7 foot dig and the fox is three feet further in Id say the dog had no bottle never mind sense. Of course they were but only by the people who were more interested in the £ and the $ not those that had the future of the line / breed in mind. Quote Link to post

Guest bitsa lurcher
allright folks , i am fairly new to terrier work , and can't help but notice that who ever has a name next to a terrier wether it be nuttal or one of the other big names , then they just seem to be getting slagged off , so for some one like myself who is looking for a HARD WORKING terrier then who do i trust before i part with my £££££££ ...... i'm not looking to start a debate or argue this is a genuine quiery Quote Link to post
