Ready To Buy....or No?

Well,

I've got the kennel and run sorted, lead, whistle, dishes, storage bin for food all sitting waiting. But....

I work away from home a month at a time, and my intention was not to buy a pup untill I came back home to work. However, my mate has got the pick of the litter which he doesn't want / need at the moment, and is offering it to me. His dog is a grafter and has turned out well.

My question would be, If I got the / a pup whilst working away, would it still be possible to train to a reasonable standard, or would it have forgotten everything by the time I arrived home again?

I'm not expecting a champion dog, just obedient, and 'reasonably' trained.

Cheers.

Go for it mate as long as you spend the time with it when your back and your other half keeps up the basics sit stay and socialising when your not there then will be sound, my mates in the same situation away a month at a time he's just got a pup, some things in life ain't ideal but you just need to work round them.

Cheers,

I was wondering if that happened if the dog would maybe 'perform' for her, but not me tho.?

My oldest daughter is very keen to get involved, although she is very young. That said, she does seem to have some kind of 'control' over her granda's Jack Russel cross when she is with it.

I could certainly spend the time with the pup on my time at home, but I would have to watch and not over do it.

Looking forward to the challenge, but don't want to cause myself any additional issues.
