Rake aboot 4,936
I`ve finally done it. I installed a heating system consisting of a woodburning boiler stove, a muckle great solar panel and a back up system gas boiler. All feeding a 260 ltr thermal store in the loft, My loft looks like Frankenstein's laboratory, but the system works great. All three systems heat the water in the store, which then heats the mains cold water, turning it into instant mains hot water. The solar has been providing a fair bit of heat already, so I might extend that part of the system when I have the cash. But the best bit is ,,,, How cool is that ! By my guess, the gas boiler will be redundant for most of the time and can be forced off, so that you have to stick a fire on for heat and water.. Lovely.
Nik_B 3,790
Is the solar enough on it's own for hot water in the summer? That looks the dogs bollocks man, I'm Jealous!!
Lab 10,979
Really would love to do this............Surrounded by forestry theres plenty trees that fall over... and you cant beat the real fire heat. After watching countryfile i would also like to look into sticking loads of solar panels in my field and getting a rent.......

My control unit isn't working properly and the thermostat dial has a crack in it so when you move it you have to squeeze the dial for it to switch on. Mind you the person that decided to put a thermostat in the only room that doesn't have a radiator and has cold concrete floors needs a special award for being a fecking moron

The Bosch guy came to service the system years back and said the system that is installed is not compatible with a gravity feed system and needs to be mains pressure. So the result is the radiators in the furthest bedrooms take about 1 hour to heat up....and thats if they decide to do so!!! Then the old control dial broke and i got a new electric one but its still not working........so its either a f**k up on the wiring or a mechanical problem.
