if the bitch is super hard. probably best to skip it and breed off a more sensible animal. . allthough some folk would,nt know a hard terrier if it bit em on the arse. a dog that is described as super hard is a liability at best. just my thoughts. good luck whatever you do. its your dog

!!!!!Breeding is gambling!!!!!   You want garantie then better go and buy a toaster!

,

If the line is that good why are you left with 1 young birch to keep it going? Surely there are older tested dogs in the line you could use, even if they are somebody else's????

If one of my bitches has two seasons hard work under her belt i would consider breeding from her. But only then. Ive unfortunatly had the displeasure of seeing a couple of very well bred bitches fly through their first season and after a couple of digs into their second start to fail. Iknow good working bitches are everything where bloodlines are concerned and you could be left high and dry if you lost a good one before breeding from her but you owe it to the breed and the terriermen that bred her and her line before her to make sure you test her. Alot of hard work can be undone in one mistake.

Whilst I agree with GTE and others about it being your dog and its your choice when you breed from it, I also seem to be constantly thinking that so many folk have some sort of compulsion to breed almost as soon as they get a dog, never mind when a dog is working, and loads of talk about lines too??

If the bitch is showing so much promise then simply enjoy her for what she is and does...

Yep, dogs can be lost (I know, I lost my best before I took anything from him!), though on here you'd think it was a weekly occurrence for some but all in all its a rare thing and a young bitch like that should give you plenty of years solid digging and that, is what we are in this job for...

Your absolutely right mate a super hard dog will usually get itself in a pickle one day or the next, but like I said on the start on this forum, brains are beginning to show. I know 1 or 2 hulk like terriers but they can sometimes be more of a pain in the ass then sport and I wouldn't use them across the bitch. Your right in what you say about iron terriers mate they are defiantly a liability, but you don't want one running around with their tail between their legs.

Lol no she ain't spewing mate. She is getting her nose now plus she has began to bay only last couple of digs. but won't let it move, she is really quick to settle even in big earths. But she might spew one day that's not impossible and it's happened to many good dogs. But so far she defo not spew. Kept her shallow when I started her but put her down any earth now as she nos now what it's all about. She loves it lol

Just my opinion but if you were genuinely interested in breeding your bitch. You would at least want to try it a bit longer. That is if you are wanting to improve the line. Breeding from untested to the full sires/bitches is the reason there is so many potlickers getting passed around. Your bitch could indeed turn out exceptional and worthy of finding a decent dog to mate with. But ask yourself this. . Why the rush.

Only my opinion of course. In the end you will do what you want. But i doubt if any genuine terriermen would contemplate purchasing the resulting offspring.

Debating on wether to breed a bitch of mine, thing is she is only 2. She is absolutely mustard hasn't put a foot wrong so far. Her blood and lines are of top terriers. Seen her parents work and seen grand parents no a lot of history. Never bred my own before. Some say breeding young makes em mature and harder (not the reason I want to breed her) some say it can ruin a bitch. I really want to breed my own stock from this bitch but also don't want to put her back as she is young and has plenty more to learn.

the answer to your question is in the last nine words of your post !!(she is young and has plenty more to learn.)

Feck me started her career at 8 months old...I have a bitch here 8 months old and It hasn't even crossed my mind when to start her! Its your bitch and your choice, but...if your in this so called circle LOL why not ask the lad to repeat the mating to try and get another like her rather than breed her? The only time id ever breed a bitch that young if I was on my arse with no one to help me and I was very desperate! sure if you're a decent enough lad lads will help you out.

Well in my little circle (don't see why that is funny) we don't like to repeat breeding as with any dog, terrier lurcher etc when you repeat the same cross it never as good as the first litter of that cross. FACT. Any dog breeder/ trainer will tell you that. As for my bitch she is 2 years old. And you say you have a 8 month old bitch and she hasn't even cross your mind. I'd be pretty excited if she was my bitch especially as the season is around the corner, even if she doesnt dig yet she should be taken out and shown what is about, see what happens at the end of a dig let her see for herself, but that hasn't even crossed your mind???? You must play a lot of golf. Lol (now that is funny)
