alan81 110
which gun u/o, s/s, single or semi auto that's your choice which ever one you want you don't have to work your way up. what make, well that depends on how much money you want to spend and what you want from the gun. choose the type of gun you want then go to a gun shop and try a few out and see which gun fits you the best Quote Link to post
GEOFF.223 83
Whats ur price limit ? This will determine alot. Stay away from baikel s/s they have a rib that aims terribly low my mate has a o/u baikel snd itz a wee cracker for £120 single trigger ejector in perfect condition. Light weight and not to harx on the shoulder and if you got scrapes on it you wont cry. There are alot of spanish o/u for aroind the £300 mark with changeable chokes ejectors and a single trigger. Or if you interested in semi autos u will pick up a cracking beretta a300, 301, 302, 303, 390 etc for around £500 I have a beretta a390 but im a big semi fan. Quote Link to post

paulus 26
if a gun does not fit, it just means the shot will not go where your looking, that does not mean you can not learn to shoot proficiently with it,providing you technique is consistent the shot will always go the same place, its just a matter of knowing where and adjusting accordingly Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
Look here - asking a bunch of people on a forum what your first shot gun should be is going to get you nothing but a hundred different answers, all of which will probably be wrong for you as it's a very personal thing. First decide what you want it for. Then get your ass down the local gunsmith and as him if you can handle a few, milk him for information about barrel lengths, chokes, u/u, s/s, fitting, exhibition grade walnut or whatever and try and see through the sales latter pointing to the gun that's been gathering dust on the rack. Once you have a vague idea of what you're after have a look on guntrader.co.uk and see what the going rate is for it. Then come on here an ask what do you think about X shotgun. Expect % of the answers to ignor your question and go off on a tangent about another model you should consider. My opinion... Shotguns are basic, uncomplicated instruments. None are really more accurate than another and choke is just a lame excuse for missing. Either make sure you get one that fits you properly or get so bloody good you fit yourself around it. The rest is pound notes and bull shit. 3 Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
thee are places you can go to get "fitted" where you get to actually fire some shots and i found these to be the most helpful. Others offer a fitting service for a price and you get bombarded with tech info. Trouble is that unless you get the names, models, specs then you can end up going to too many gunsmiths and get too many that fit. so i agree with the above (im looking for my first too) so from now on im keeping it simple like Yokel says Quote Link to post

HIN 2
The advice is simple. You should test some shotguns and rifles before, make an idea about the recoil, decide on what you intend to use it and then search the web for reviews. Then, choose your ammo, check for availability and ask for opinions. It is hard to start searching without knowing what you want. Good luck! Quote Link to post
