Bosun11 537
Yep, IMO opinion all this greatest guitar stuff is bollox anyway because folk sit on two sides of the fence, those who see it as accomplishment, as in the classic playing of a guitar only and those, like me, who see it as great only when its apart of sommat else, as in within a song. 'Ol Django may have been truly gifted, like Malmsteen or Satriani and they may have inspired folk in their millions.... But if I ain't hearing anything I can tap my feet to, or instantly recognising as a song that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up within the first two bars... I don't give a flying feck what they can fecking play like...!!
inan 841
Does no one think Pete Townsend deserves a mention........Dave Gilmore............Roger Waters?............Townsend started that shit, smashing guitars, swinging his arms in a circle, because he couldnt play them too well.Any of you lot ever heard of Rheinhardt or Paul ? Jesus Christ! Townsend is a great guitarist not for his rock solos but for his style. The guitar smashing was actually an accident whilst playing the Railway Hotel in Harrow the stage ceiling was only 7ft high as he hit a chord he raised the guitar up and accidently smashed it on the ceiling breaking the head off, so not to look stupid he then smashed the rest of the guitar up and the crowd went wild, moon the loon joined in and the rest is history. Yep Glenn Cambell is not only an excellent song writer but also an excellent guitarist, better then Hendrix not really different styles again but what sets Hendrix apart is he was breaking boundaries and everyone else followed. Led Zeps Stairway to heaven is a piece of piss to play but could I have written it? Could I f*ck, that's what makes it such an awesome piece of music. Music is so subjective that's why we love it As I said before Brian Setzer is probably one of if not the greatest guitarist alive today. ATB Brian's brother Alka is better imo. THE STIFFMEISTER 16,491
This is controversial but I genuinely believe that there is few modern axe men as good as the seminal jack white, his riffs on the white blood cells album are amazing, on disc his songs sound tinny and recycled but live and unleashed his sets truly are second to none,
