Thing is if we dont pass it on it will be another one of the old arts that dies, already a lot of folk are buying sheet netting and banding them on rings nothing like the same as a good hand made purse net

Give it a go theres nothing like catching rabbits in nets you have made yourself

I learn't by getting a copy of Howard Glynns book called Net making for sport very easy to understand, give it a go.

Is this stuff any good and how many nets out of it cheers j

Whoops here's the link

Don't know if you read the entire thing but it says they are happy to send samples for you to try.

I have had some samples off of him. The twine in the link will make a good longnet twine but is far too fine for purse nets. This one will make a fine purse net.

If you want samples email Simon at yarnbay@yahoo.co.uk He has now got a gold polyester in but it is quite heavy and slippery you would have to double knot or do a Carric bend on it, would be allright for fox nets.

Thanks for all the information everyone, this was my first forum thread and all the advice and response has been great :D From your experience whats the best material to use?

Jack

Good question LoneHunter and your going to get a lot of spun poly answers, which is freely available and good for the job. I use it but also use sole sewing thread and think its the best material of the lot IMHO and not just because I get it for free

There is a valid point made here. Personally I think there are a multitude of threads/ twines out there that will suit a netters need. No one thread/twine will suit everyone. So experiment with different twines till you find one or two that suits your needs, your knitting style and most importantly your pocket.

Been looking at the bonded nylon is it any good.

In my honest opinion I would not use it. I has to be double knotted, the diameter would only suit long nets and as it only comes in white it would have to be dyed. This is where the problem lies. If it was hot dyed it would shrink the problem is how much? On the up side when it does shrink it pulls the knots tighter.
