Fox Problem

Recommended Posts

We are suffering from a major fox problem.

There are a pack of 6 digging up our garden, along with trying to get at the kids rabbits in the shed.

I own a HW80 & a HW 100 in .22, but I am aware these are not fit for this purpose.

Can anyone recommend a FAC air riffle, as I don't really want to go down the rim fire route.

I know you guys will have the answer.

unless you already have a slot for fac air, then it could take months to get one issued, just cage trap them

.303 daystate wolverine is what you need mate

Would do the job, but try and get it conditioned for fox, properly no chance. Best just snare or trap, your aloud one swift clean blow to the head to dispatch.

I know a lad on this forum who's allowed to on his ticket but its because they don't see FAC air as suitable for foxs he has a normal FAC licence aswel which then allows him to shoot them with it. For this exact case of a 303 piece of lead isnt going to ricochet like the .22 rimfire but the same muzzle velocity as a rimfire and where the 303 loses all power at 400yards the .22 carrys on for 1.5 miles. I may stand corrected when he see's this but I'm pretty sure that's the case

If you are going for an FAC to sort a Fox problem you can get a sweet little rimfire .22LR or 17HMR centrefire that will do the job very well and for far less cost than a souped-up PCP. The only true answer for foxing and a lot less faff than with an air rifle.

If the Police illegal lamping/poaching patrols found you with a dead fox and an air rifle, they can, and likely will confiscate it to determine it's power with proper ballistic lab tests as suitably powerful enough for shooting foxes. Regardless of the fact that you have a legal right to shoot with an air rifle on ticket. Does it meet the limits for foxing? That's just one possible headache. The rest are the same whatever type of FAC rifle you own (home security, Police visit check etc) so, you might as well cut the hassle factor with the law.

Get an FAC and a decent little bolt action rim/centrefire and you'll have a lot less to worry about. You have good reason with a patent fox problem for applying for one too.
