morton 5,368
How can there be a stigma to a 'gay' whippet?... Its not like a bull x... that makes you look hard... or a muscled lurcher that makes you look like a proper hunter... A gay whippet...makes you look gay? .... Some.people like whippets...for whatever reasons they may be... They just suit some peoples lifestyle... I can't work out if that's sarcasm. . . . i'm tired. What I meant. . . is that on such places as the wornderfull world of THL. . . . . some folk look down on the humble whippet and their owners. As in. . . . it's not a proper working running dog. . . . because it ain't a lurcher. . . . . And i didn't say I agreed Lee. I keep lurchers, have owned and worked whippets,i really, really like whippets,id never have another, does that make me a Whippet knocker or a realist?. Quote Link to post

Rabbiting man 1,192
Had big lurchers in the past done well with them. When my last 26 inches tall lurcher got run over Jan 2012. I decided to go for small lurcher has I do more day time rabbiting than I do lamping. a friend of mine bred a litter of Collie/Whippets. This type was what I was looking for so I ended up with a black bitch & I only gave 40 purse nets for her. It was the best choice I made. Quote Link to post

Rabbiting man 1,192
No she a lurcher, but she's another type of cross to choice from if anyone wants to hunt with a small dog. I looked at Whippets seen some cracking litters. Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,135
Rake a dont want a lurcher because they are too big for my i wont be hunting foxes or hares all i want i a dog that will catch a rabbit when it bolts and a whippet is bred to do that. Ideation what lines is your whippet mate? Ill have a look in that forum i wouldnt pay more than £500 for any pup that is going to be a working dog as noone knows how it will turn out even if its came from cracking parents The dog on the right is Beddy Whippet (lurcher) Not all lurcher are big, and rest assured my two are ideal rabbit dogs, your we dogs coming on well them rake good luck with your season 1 Quote Link to post

B.P.R 2,798
I have a small lurcher that was coming on leaps and bounds...for lamping she was shiit hot... a bit 'out of it' for ferreting.... although i didnt really give her a chance.... My whippet is on the ball for ferreting... but 'lacks a bit' on the lamping...again..she never got much chance at lamping.... I 'have' a dog for each.... i say 'have' .... as the lurcher.... well...you know the story... Point it... i found each of my dogs good at something and i didnt need them for the other.... Theres no doubting.... if i had 1 dog and 1 dog only.... for everything.... It would be my small lurcher.... But if you like whippets...as do i.... and if they suit your lifestyle...as they do for me....then theyve got a shiit load to offer... and will give 100%.... But they do have their limits.... Cant be more honest than that .... 2 Quote Link to post
BORDERSCOT 3,816
Mrs lost her Border x Lakeland terrier last summer....I bred him and he was a proper grafter but waaaaaaaaay too macho......retired at 18 months....she had a soft spot for what was left of him so he kicked around for the next 15 years..... It was her wee 'pet' she's on about another fireside dog......might get her a whippet........ Quote Link to post
