Frann 882
This thread might flop LOL but here goes. I thought after Cameron's words on Britain after that Russians comments, a thread saying positive things about our Isle might be good? Churchill quotes, Shakespeare, Welsh, Scots quotes, etc. Post them here so we can lighten the mood. Mine is the poem "In Passing" written in 1967 by Brian Harris To be born in Wales,Not with a silver spoon in your mouth,But, with music in your blood ...And with poetry in your soul,Is a privilege indeed.Your inheritance is a land of Legend,Of love and contrast.A land of beauty so bright it burns the eyes.Of ugliness that scars the SpiritAs the Earth.Wales is an old land with woundsThat weep in hills. They wept before in the bodies of menAnd in the hearts of womenAnd time will never heal them. The stigmata of sorrow,Of pain and poverty,Of lonely crucifixion in the dark,Remain our lives to feed. This Land of our Fathers was built on coal. Its rivers of mingled blood and sweatHave forever darkened it,Relieved only by death. We are a sad people. Our sadness being wrapped in harps and musicAnd praise to God,For the lovely, yearning lightThat feeds the Spirit as well as the eyes.

As true now as ever. “Still, it is the primary right of men to die and kill for the land they live in, and to punish with exceptional severity all members of their own race who have warmed their hands at the invaders' hearth.”

Chid 6,464
So sure l'm an Ulster Orangeman, from Erin's isle I came,To see my British brethren all of honour and of fame,And to tell them of my forefathers who fought in days of yore,That I might have the right to wear, the sash my father wore!Chorus:It is old but it is beautiful, and its colours they are fineIt was worn at Derry, Aughrim, Enniskillen and the Boyne. My father wore it as a youth in bygone days of yore,And on the Twelfth I love to wear the sash my father wore.ChorusFor those brave men who crossed the Boyne have not fought or died in vainOur Unity, Religion, Laws, and Freedom to maintain,If the call should come we'll follow the drum, and cross that river once moreThat tomorrow's Ulsterman may wear the sash my father wore!ChorusAnd when some day, across the sea to Antrim's shore you come,We'll welcome you in royal style, to the sound of flute and drumAnd Ulster's hills shall echo still, from Rathlin to DromoreAs we sing again the loyal strain of the sash my father wore

scothunter 12,609
The British may not be the greatest nation at winter olympics, but at least we can carry our bloody flag properly. Be Britain what she will. With all her faults, she is my Island still
