Gun Lights For Lamping?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

im looking for gun lights for laming rabbits that fits right on top of the scope, I don't need a very powerful beam that goes miles, just a beam strong enough to light up a rabbit up to 40 yards away enough to take a clean shot, and strong enough to find the quarry.

I've been looking at the Deeben Tracer LEDray 100-red, does anybody have any experience with this line of gun lights or this exact model?

Hi Dan

for a mountable gun light my max budget would be about £100 including postage, but I was heading towards a red gun light or a light with colored filters as the rabbits do not register the red as a threat.

I have the Deben Ultra Spot lamp, very pleased with it, on offer from Uttings at the moment comes complete with charger and red filter. Where abouts in the county are you ?

Take care on the filters, I have a LEDLenza P7 - mounts no probs, has push botton and pressure botton to mount onto the stock. The LED is white and will shine 200+ meters with frech batteries. The filter kit is under £10 and has 4 colours, red, blue, green and yellow. Sadly they all reduce the beam to some degree.

Yellow will still shine out to 150m+, Green to 100m+, Blue to 50m+ the red sucks, you can hardly see your feet.

If you have time, go on ebay, get teh ULTRAFIRE RED LED, B501W or something, you can get one for £7-£8, you'll need to order teh 18650 batteries and charger too, plus a mount, but you can get all of it for under £30. BUT - it is from china and it will take 2-3 weeks to arrive. I've seen a couple of the lads on here with them and borrowed one too, great red light out to 80-100m easy.

I use currently a Deben tracer mini and its a decent lamp. straight on the scope no problem.

has an on / off switch but I think you can get a version with a dimmer instead for a little more money.

spots rabbits at distance easily, if anything I woul;d say its a bit too powerful as at close range - 40 yards - the beam is possibly too bright and the rabbits seem to run more than sit.

suppose a red filter would make this lamp better for close range, and taking shots, but not as good as a longer range spotting lamp.

if it had a dimmer it would be amazing but I hardly go lamping so haven't splashed the cash on an upgrade I wont use. mind you with the darker nights rolling in now I think I will be lamping a lot more.

hope this helps mate. SKoT:victory:

edit heres a pic 20130824_222740_zpsc40f2d46.jpg

also the battery is a bit of a shed and weighs a bit, could do with a lighter one, but if you chuck it in a backpack its not too bad. wire is pretty long so its usually ok

Hope this helps

For get about filters they reduce the light to much, If you go on the bay you can get a ultrafire 501b which has a red drop in far better

Al so there is some bloke who makes them up on this forum http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/297852-wf-501b-converted-ir-illuminator/

Hi guys

I have decided to go for the deeben tracer ledray 100 red, it has a 120m red bean which for my use is more than enough, if the red is ineffective then I could always change the colour of the bulb right? (im not sure on that so any info on this would be great) I also chose this because it's a real lightweight choice to accompany the weight of the daystate huntsman regal which I will be fitting it to. along with this I will be using an MTC mamba 4-16x50 RIR.

I think that I will also get a bipod and eventually an Andrew huggett belita moderator to make my setup a true hunting combination.
