Is Putin/russia Right About Gb?

Recommended Posts

The russians have and always will be very secretive as far as the inner runnings of there country. its a form of democracy they practise over there.

agree with chris, the cold war ended but there not a forgiven bunch is the russians, they got a red face on the world stage when they got there arses handed to them in afghanastan, and they knew exactly where the blame lay for that fiasco lol

aye poke that f*****g bear at your peril right enough. They dont give a f**k how many of there troops fall they will keep coming, public opinion over there does not dictate policy. They just do as there told and happy if they make it through the day.

The old Soviet Union never ratified the Geneva Convention. They wouldn't play by the rules. Why anyone would think they would now, considering that the old ways are still running the new country, is quite baffling. We have 11 years of depleted military budget, battle fatigue, and total lack of public will to be involved. While I'm not particularly frightened of big Vlad I think he knows how the west is and is simply calling it like it is. It makes him look good on the international circuit. Don't think a giant pipe line from Persia to Russia isn't being worked out.

Nuclear weapons ensure nothing real serious kicks off. The Russian forces are mostly conscripts, they are also aware that conscripts ain't shit when compared with a regular voluntary force. They might try something small, a proxy war if you will as occurred throughout the Cold War years, but no way would they face NATO in toe to toe combat.

We have the training but they've always had the numbers. If they keep the Chinese onside I think it would be suicide for the west to go all out and provoke them. Russia provides fuel and weapons. China is the biggest trading market on the planet. The only thing, I believe, that has kept them from using military muscle is trade. Their economy is booming and they realize that they'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Take that incentive away, and then what?

Why cant we be more like Austria, S'land, Norway , Sweden, Canada even keep our noses out it's cheaper

and you get less bother on the world stage. Just a thought.

Isolation? We still have a duty to remain relevant in the international arena, but also have to balance that with the will of the people at home. Cameron wants re-election, same as any MP. He will do whatever it takes to secure that re-election. War or not.

on the news there he was meant to have said that gb is just a small island that nobody listens to any more. has he any credit? in my views it has become a soft nation of protesters and lazy fcukers

If only we had all joined in and helped Hitler it wouldn't matter what Putin thinks cause he would be a train driver or something !!

it seems were a far way off the men even from the 60s never mind the early half of the 20th century. I think we need a military experienced pm to run th country who will stand up to all the nonsense g

The Chinese and Russians ain't the best of friends, far from it.. The Cold War was often portrayed here as East vs West, Communist vs Capitalist, USA vs USSR, or Reds vs Blue. It weren't, China have hated Russia ever since Khrushchev was in charge there because they saw him as a traitor with the version of communism he led by.

Fair play to you for doing a bit of research mate, looks like someone used some poetic license ?

It Could almost have been based on this speech, which gives more or less the same message ?

Big G, vanguard class subs carry our nukes not retired vulcans.

Chris, numbers of conscripts count for jack shit against highly trained and experienced professional troops. History has proven that more than once. You also say we are battle fatigued, I would say battle hardened. Our forces today have the battle experience often lacked in previous decades.

Scot, I never said Russia were push overs, I said they have more sense than to face NATO. Russia getting brave like that would unite the west IMO. No country wants to see a Russia once again hell bent on becoming a superpower. Jmo

Fair comments, BH, but I disagree that we can keep drawing from the well, over and over, without replenishing it. Who would pay for another conflict? Will the British public allow another open ended war? The current campaigns were founded on political bullshit, and the stresses and strains of such commitments are beginning to show.

Absolutely, but a war with Russia wouldn't just be 'another war', it'd be the war to end all wars. My only point was I don't think the Russians are that stupid, there would be no winning situation for anyone.

Totally agree. I don't think it's anything more than international posturing, at this point. The North Koreans were doing it a while back, but their attempt was just laughable. Putin has enough of an edge to make it look convincing!

My take is that both Russia and China make far more money with trade, than they will with war. They're not going to be in any great rush to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.
