shovel leaner 7,650
Hi , have any other keepers decided what they are doing with this R T I , [REAL TIME INFORMATION] , that the inland revenue are on about , every other keeper i speak to is saying something different . From what i gather you have to ask for the names address and NI number of every beater , and keep it on record for 3 years . The onus is then on the beater to pay their own tax . Most other shoots around here are putting the money up a fiver to offset this . I think im going to struggle to find beaters , as only a couple are self employed , most are retired and worried that it will affect their tax credits or some are on some sort of benefits . I cant get a straight answer of any of them if they will come or not yet , im thinking of sending a letter to each one with a form asking for their details and if they dont return it i will take it that they wont be coming , which will be a real shame because some have been coming to this shoot for more than 40 years . Another thing they are worried about is the tax man looking at the information and then getting a retrospective tax bill . Unlikely i know but do you trust the inland revenue ? Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,763
Is there anything stopping you filling your register with False names and contact details? I'm not suggesting this of course but just wondering if it is a flaw with the system.............. Quote Link to post

hily 379
clamp down on tax evasion easy to bully joe public as he is on his own fighting the tax man, but try and get the correct tax out of a large company and then the tax collector does deals with the company's legal team to pay less tax than they should so has basc ngo or nobs or the like come up with any advice from the legal team's that they employ which are paid for by the joe public members of these or organisations I only ask this as I don't know. This in itself is a failure by these organisations .I think some of the larger shoots who are owned by company's or have rich owners are happy to pay the tax for the beaters as they can offset this against the profitss ,but now some of these same shoots are struggling to find beaters for reasons mentioned in previous posts. Some shoots are going to claim they don't pay beaters at all but all you have to do is say huff one bloke who you'v sent home cos he can't control his dog and he then shops you to the tax man to get his own back . Just a few thoughts on this subject and by the way I'm pleased to say we walk and stand with only the guns on our little shoot. Suppose they could start taxing us for walking on British soil .Does anyone think this is a pop at field sports or just a way to raise revenue me well I think its all about the money.PS should all beaters join together as a charity that helps to manage wildlife and then avoid the the tax man . mackay 3,364
I don't actually think it would affect the majority unless you're beating six days a week. Deduct petrol, wellies, jacket, stick, say you take your own lunch and whatever else you can think of and ask for a tax rebate. Edited September 6, 2013 by mackay Quote Link to post

Bristol39 0
Hi shovel leaner, not sure if I'm putting this in the right thread as only joined today so apologise if this message is in the wrong place. Read your thread about the tax man and beaters and would like to put my hand up and volunteer to beat if your struggling to find people. I do have some experience in beating when I was younger in Oxford. I do have two springer spaniels who I would like to bring also if that wouldn't be a problem. Hope to hear from you, Martin Quote Link to post

mattlimb 27
Gents, I have done a lot of work into this. with an accountant, and the article was published in Countryman's Weekly a few weeks ago. Bottom line it is not a great issue for either the shoot or the beater/picker up provided you are not employed by the shoot - would it help if I was to pub the details on line? Quote Link to post
04fox8 168
There is an article in this months BASC Magazine too. As above, shouldn't bother anyone other than 'professional' teams. Quote Link to post
