Lancashire Hunter 22
Hi guys im re applying for my sgc after having a incident last year when i went through a state of depression and a stupid accusation was made that was false and was advised off the fao to volenterly withdraw my certificate so i did. Just wandering if it is worth me going to my doctor and ask him if he thinks im of stable mind ect and his proffesional opinion? Im also going in for my fac for fox control and rabbits. And who can i ask as counter signatures? Thanks for any help and advice. Quote Link to post
Chr15j 59
Tbh I think you may have an issue, although it does depend in your circumstances. Don't answer these questions but were you depressed as it just a little bit feeling sorry for yourself or clinically depressed on medication? Also, re your withdrawal, was it voluntary or were you told if you didn't they would take your licence from you. Re the accusation, was it taken seriously and was it a threat of self or third party harm that was accused. All these points will be relevant, and a dr signing you off as long term ok will be helpful (it may thus be too soon to reapply. Good luck Quote Link to post
Lancashire Hunter 22
I was told to re applt in 12 months the depression was i would say just feeling low and alone at the time as i went through a break up i was never put on medication for it though but did see a pyciatrist after a incident and he said i seem fine and what i did must have been a silly and a sign of desparation for help. The accusation was off the ex claiming that i may try something with my guns to harm my self it was apart of my past which yes embarassed about but if im asked a question regarding this post then i will answer it honsetly. But going to the doc is a good idea and would potentialy help my case? Quote Link to post

StephenWalsh 73
From what I understand if you have had a mental health issue then 18 months on (it may be a different length of time where you are) with no other problems you can re-apply. However, they will write to your Doctor for his opinion, so it may be worth speaking to him first as he could say that you aren't well enough to have a gun. Basically it's in the hands of the doctor and the police for their opinion of your mental health, if the Doctor gives you the green light then the police would need another reason to deny your licence. Obviously be as honest as you can with them. Good luck! N.B. this is just my opinion, what the FAO told me a long time ago during my interview... Quote Link to post

alan81 110
I don't think you should have to much trouble as long as your doctor is behind you. im on meds for depression for the last 7 years almost of them now thank fukc. I was called in to the gards a few times for check ups and 1 gard wroth a letter to the super saying he didn't think I should have guns. I never lost my guns and I just received my third licence a few days ago. as long as your doctor is willing to wright a letter to the police saying you are of sound mind and he/she see's no problem with you having guns there should be no problem atb. Lancashire Hunter 22
I did consider asking the doctor to do a little letter for me to give the police to say he thinks im of sound mind but when i mentioned it to my fao he said its a good idea but he said most gps tend to ask for payment for such things and could be seen as unreliable as may have payed for him to say that. I have been ringing and asking my fao on firearms team lots of questions regarding this and all i am told is be open and honest which i am. As i said i have nothing to hide and im embarresed about my stupidity and horrid mistake but i have done what the fao said and waited 12 months from his previose visit to me after the guns were confiscated ect. So fingers crossed but i want hold my breath about it. Thanks again for your helpfull advice. Quote Link to post
alan81 110
no mate your doctor wont ask you for payment that's not true you will have to pay for your doctors time even if you don't get a letter. that would be like the doctor taking a bribe, the doctor cant and wont give you a letter if he thinks your not of sound mind he would be putting his career in danger and also he would be in danger of prosecution if anything happened. yes you have to be noting but honest with the police but I would not have as much as a pee gun now without the backing of my doctor. I asked the police to get in touch with my doctor and ask for her opinion and they did and she sent the letters to the super, I never saw the letters. a doctors opinion is highly regarded within the police because they have to be honest and most of all truthful. make sure to talk to your doctor first and ask the police to contact your doctor themselves, you don't want to have anything to do with the letter because if you have then it could have been fabricated and worthless. atb in whatever you do and I hope it works out for you. airbourne 128
I have just got my shotgun renewed and the chief inspector said that he needed a doctors report ie letter before he would issue my renewal cost me £42 that was the fee for the doctors time, the police in Staffordshire will not pay the fee any more. I was thinking of putting in a little letter in for them aswell but im stuck on what to put down. I have so far put down who i am and that i volunterly gave up my licence up 12 months ago and that my circumstances have changed in that time and that im willing to accept any terms or conditions that they see fit. Is there anything else i should put down that may help? Quote Link to post
