Small - Medium 4X4 Recommendations

Recommended Posts

As title, I will soon be in the market for a small to medium sized four wheel drive.

It will be used for light off road use and be able to get me about when the white stuff starts to fall.

I've got a budget of about £4k and don't want anything too old or with over 70k miles.

Petrol or diesel not really fussed.

I've looked at the Suzuki Jimny, Mitsubishi Shogun pinin warrior and The Landrover Defender 54/05 reg.

Just wondering what you guys opinion are? Been talking to a mechanic I know and he says buy jap and I won't go far wrong, he says the defenders are crap build quality and the 1.8 K series Rover engine is a big no go! Trouble is I liked the defender the most :/

Any help or advice much appreciated. Thanks, Kieren.

Those petrol freelanders are shite, both them and the mg cars that share the petrol engine, have head gaskets go,that's why they are cheap.

I reckon a jimney best bet . Landys the parts are usually cheap, but they are normally basic ride and always need tinkering with.

Edit spelling to make sense,;)

Thanks for the advice lads! Although I prefer the look and the size of the freelander facelift model there are clearly some mechanical issues with it and obviously the jimny can't be recommended highly enough so I reckon it will be the Jimny I choose!
