hutchey 147
Hi folks, need some help please. Put my 6.5-24x50 onto my 243 and used my shot saver thing to try to get on paper target. Had no joy at all so took it to my local gun shop who did the same thing with their shot saver. I looked through the barrel and it appeared to be good but fired the shot and its 6 inches right and 5 high. I tried to alter the clicks but ran out of adjustment. Came back inside and used a bit of paper with a red circle on it and put it on the wall, got he barrel lined up with it ok but when I looked through the scope, the cross hairs have twisted as if the scope had rotated. Checked the angle of the gun and the scope and sure enough the cross hairs are no longer truly vertical/horizontal. I've checked all the Allen key bolts and they are all tight but not overly tight. Any ideas? Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
In my opinion either the scope wasnt mount correctly in the 1st place or the other alternative is its knackered. If it were me i would start from scratch and set it up again ATB Quote Link to post
airbourne 128
I had the same trouble mounting a new scope a few weeks ago ended up buying new scope mounts the bkf ones £43. The old mounts were pulling the scope to one side and tilting the scope up yet they were fine on the old scope it might be worth checking. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Try a different scope, if no good a different scope and mounts, rule out those problems first, but it sounds to me like the scope is knackered mate. Quote Link to post
coldweld 65
What make of scope is it ? Quote Link to post

hutchey 147
I'll try the scope from my rimmy and see if it will line up. The odd thing is that this was lined up ok but now its fubar after 3 shots! Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
I'll try the scope from my rimmy and see if it will line up. The odd thing is that this was lined up ok but now its fubar after 3 shots! I think it's back to basics as has been mentioned, try the scope on another rifle, and try another scope in this rifle, you will soon find if the problem lies with scope or mounts! Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
Well I sent the scope back and bearing in mind it's old and knackered, they have offered me 30% off a new one of my choice. Now I know it not German glass but what are your thoughts folks Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
For me Nikon Prostaff 3-9 x 50 can't be beaten for quality and value for money, seriously check these scopes out I have a Scmidt and bender on my 6.5 and I struggle to see the difference. 1 Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
30% off a new scope is a result - many places wouln't have been so generous. Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
^^very true^^ holding on for a bit to have a look and see what's about. Got a friend that is keeping an eye out for me too. I'm up at Bisley on saturday so might be a place to be able to look through a few too. Quote Link to post
derek.snr 7
would have thought that a6-24 was too much mag for a243., hawke do not have a great rep on centrefires unless you are using the top of the range 30mm tube models I would not bother with them .good luck with your search Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
Their top of the range is still only £389 on their site and is a 8-32x50 I think. Still reading through the scope specs and reviews for lots of makes. Quote Link to post
