Yokel Matt 918
And then some mate. I've found these very suitable for fox out to 300 meters. Quote Link to post
morgan the moon 0
As above, been using this ammo for about 2 years only on the fox, the best round by far, flat and lethal. Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
Is this a trick question? 40 gr @ 3800 fps, this will knock them into the next world. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
I have seen the strange effect of surface splash with some V-Max but tend to put this down to one off incidents rather than daily repeatable events, but in principle a .223 40g V-max will be absolutely fine. To an extent I have to agree with #4...if 17g 2550ft sec HMR V-Max can put them down, is it really a trick question? Quote Link to post
slipper 116
not a trick question to be honest i was worried about surface splash, with being a light bullet compared to some fox loads, was just curious to know if it was enough bullet to smash through chest bone and into the vitals, but enough said looks like I need not worry, going to give it a try anyhow as I have been target practicing and it is very accurate, see how I get on as I might buy the heads for when I start reloading, thanks for the replies Quote Link to post
Saluki246 1,053
When i had a .223, i use to fire the Hornady 40gr v max and they cut foxes in half!!! They penetrated well and done a LOT of damage!! Foxes out to 300yds plus, dropped like a stone. !! Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,101
What twist rate do you have in your guns,? Quote Link to post
ianm 2,594
I use 40grn federal premium and they are superb. I used to use hornady superperformance 53grn but ditched them in favour of the 40grn federals, my rifle is 1-12" twist. Quote Link to post

Even if you do glance strike a rib its going to go off like a grenade inside it and no exit would be a good thing. A splash wound which doesn't penetrate the vitals would make me think twice if using an HMR but lets not go down that road again. Quote Link to post

I have only ever fired a handful of Varmint Grenades. But I guess the description/effect can be "similar occasionally". Quote Link to post
