Usually you ferret when there is an r in the month. These days tho the weather ain't as predictable as it used to be. Good cold spells will make it easier tho as it will kill most of the cover, most folk will try youngsters the same year as they are born. They do become far more reliable tho the year after, so about 5 months old won't harm them in little wardens. Ferret finders are worth there weight in gold even if you don't intend on digging. It gives you peace of mind. When you say Jack you mean hob right? And not a Jack Russel? Being castrated won't make a hob work any better. It may make your life easier during the summer with housing arrangements but that about it..... hope this helps
