ferrets and the heat ??

Recommended Posts

Apparently ferrets don`t or cannot sweat they pant just like a dog. Neither wonder the heat buggers them it would be like us walking about with fur coats on sweating our [bANNED TEXT] know what`s off. Seems that if you take the precautions that some of the folks said then you should be fine would`nt want a dead fert now would you. FV.

As said before, prevention is better than cure.

I sited the Court under a very old and large Oak tree. In the summer it is lovely and cool, in the winter the leaves have dropped and they get more light.

Gotta love nature!

Prevention is definitely better than cure.

I really liked the idea of having a 'bunker' for my stinkers but due to the make of their cage digging would have been impractical. Instead I threw together a few bricks and made them an above ground bomb shelter  with a tub of water sitting on top for the roof. Now the spoilt fecks have a cool hidey hole and a pool. It stays quite chilled underneath and if I want to increase efficiency I dump a bucket of ice into the tub.

It gets ridiculously hot here and they'll stay under it during the day. Mind, as soon as it hits 40 I move them inside. Anything above that and even I won't go outside. :icon_redface:

I had this problem last week the two hobs were very warm, i have them moved now but i discovered an egg out off the fridge seemed two cool them down as well as a basin with cool water. i just cooled them with the water then gave them the egg in a dish, they were coming around after that. I find they cool as quick as they heat has anyone else found this.

so what do the boys in oz using ferrets do in summer ???? how do the ferrets cope ?? or is it case of bringing them inside with the aircon ??

When it gets into extreme temperatures they don't do well at all even with ample shade and water, I move mine indoors during the hottest part of the day and then back outside at night.
