Eye Injury In Lurcher

Just back from seeing the eye specialist at the vet an its not good news,she conducted all sorts of different tests flushed his eye with dye again then got a right good look in the eye....unfortunately the thorn had pierced the eyeball an its infected..got him on right strong antibiotics now to try an kill off the infection..even if the infection subsides hes gonna be blind in that eye...if it doesnt clear up considerably by monday then hes gonna have to have his eye removed...to say im gutted for him would be an understatement..hes only just turned three..again thanks to all who replied with advice..i'll update this come monday...cheers , gravedigger...

Grave digger i would take the dog to the vet just incase any infection sets in, had the thorn penetrated right through the membrane?

Hope so paulus...hate to see him in any discomfort...best case scenario now is blind in one eye or worst lose the eye completely....just bad luck i suppose...was only a matter of time before he came a cropper hittin cover like a kamikaze pilot..!! On the up side he couldve done a lot worse ,so just have to wait an see how things progress..cheers mate gravedigger

Don't give up hope, had exactly the same happen to one of mine a few years ago. A twig pieced the eye ball and broke off inside, two operations, £1500 quid, seven tiny stitches in the surface of his eye and a few months later he was back in work. He can see out of it but not perfectly, took him a few frustrating nights to figure out how to compensate but he got his form back in the end.

I'll just take my time with him..regardless what the outcome..hes not only a workin dog for me but a family pet to my 3 wee kids as he lives in the house..the eye even though swollen is startin to open up a bit more.....roll on monday,just want to get on with getting him healed up....cheers gravedigger..

Hope so mate ,know it looks bad but its better than what it was..an hes actually opening the eye up just a case now of wether he keeps the eye or not...vets 100% hes already blind in it..

probably be able to tell better when the swelling and infection has gone.
