, what`s there at the minute is because of the trauma sustained with the injury but later infection is the biggest worry, green/yellow gunge will mean an infection

it wasnt right in through his eye..from what i can see hes scratched his eye an it stuck in on the lining of the eye...didnt show any discomfort when i removed it an hasnt been pawing at it since its been rinsed out..other than the redness an slight swelling hes not showing any discomfort...first time ive ever had a dog injure his eye though...thanks to paulus an tj jones for advice as well..

You are very lucky mate, a dog of mine had Blackthorn through its eye and lost it.

Its one of those things you can't determine, what damage it does. We done as the vet said and left it, within two days the dog was in agony with the eye bulging (and that ain't a pretty sight!). Nowt to do but remove the eye... Blackthorn's a nasty 'ol thing, next time your spiked in the hand, or get a small splinter, imagine the pain of it in the eye...

I hope your dog is doing well.. ;)

Grant, at that time, he was a damn sight better though he'd burst the stitches from the eye being removed, which was ok as although we had a hole to fill, his eye socket (!) it was just a case of filling it with wound powder till it healed. He ended up with the same face and just a big indentation where there eye was. Now he uses it like a normal eye, blinks and scratches it but there is no eye there..!

The worst bit was when the eye bulged and ruptured... Feck me, the worst thing you can imagine, the dogs eye completely disfigured and bulging from its head and the dog in total agony...

Made a good recovery though and we've spent the last five years looking for animals that only turn left... :D

Is that your Ox dog paul....???

Fk me that looks bad....I do a lot of hedgelaying in winter and blackthorn is the worst...get some bad ones with them...go wrong too if you're not careful...

Did that affect the dog's overall performance apart from any adjustments he had to make....???

Colin, yes mate, i'd be lying if I said it never... He's made enough adjustments but the truth is that on 'some' turns he simply loses his quarry.

It's a fecking shame when he's ran the bollocks out of it and when he's up its arse, he can loose it for enough time for it to get clean away, with him doing a right an left 'where-dit-go' head turn.

Me, i've learned to live with it better than him, every catch is a bonus (and we have had plenty of catches) but frustrating for him each and every time out... I'd have called it quits that day in the vets when he said the eye will have to go but I was persuaded to try and try we did, glad I did now!

Ohh looks right nasty that fella..

One of mine got the end of a dry thistle in the eye..

Dog had sticky eye I could not see anything.. Vet put some drops in with dye and told me it had something in there. Knocked her out and pulled it out it was not very big and caused no lasting damage..

Be gutted if me dog lost a eye..

Hope yer dogs ok mate !
