What Shotgun To Get On Budget?

Recommended Posts

Personally the best gun I have ever owned was an AYA Yeoman 12 side by side double trigger. It went every where, did every thing and never failed. Cheap and lasted, wish I still had it!

Stay clear of semi autos until you are comfortable and on target consistently, the added noise and movement of the action can put some people off. Plus the odd jam can be a pain for new shooters.

P.S selling my semi auto because I can load my browning o/u faster.

there is no real difference in the shooting style of an u/o and a semi auto so no need to get used to a different gun first and the noise and movement of the action is not a big deal. I wouldn't tell anyone first time shooter or not to stay away from a semi auto that's just ridiculous. my brothers first gun was a semi auto and he still has it and you would have to go a long way to find a better shot. if someone starts of with a semi auto then the slight extra noise and the movement of the action is not strange and not needed to be gotin used to.

Ive been shooting rifles for last 30 years and recently bought my first shotgun.

Didn't want to spend a fortune as I have previously made that mistake with rifles...Spent £1000s on one and wont use it in the rain....POINTLESS!

After much thought and debate I went for a second hand Browning semi auto, I paid £400.00 for it including breach block with orange 'flag' 250 cartridges and a gun slip.

Ive been absolutely thrilled with it and cannot recommend it highly enough.

My main use is wandering the fields 'walking up' pigeons, I do however go on the odd friendly clay shoot where it is equally good.

Don't rule out a semi auto as a first gun, im pleased with mine.
