swaino 126
after been shown round my new permission by the farmer a few weeks ago he made it clear he wanted something doing about the rabbits soon so i promised i would make a start early for him and thats what i did. now i dont want to start clearing everything off i just wanted to make a good impression on him as well as the cover is right up and the rabbits are still breeding so i didnt want to spend too long up there. anyhow i arrived there about 8oclock and had a bit of a mooch about with the dog and the first couple of rabbits were soon in the bag. hunted out of the reedy patches with short sprints and some fine strikes. the area i was on was a length of banking mostly covered in whinny bushes and was full of rabbits, far too thick and full of cover at the minute but should be good fun for a terrier or two unitll it dies down to get in with the ferrets. after me mooch i went and grabbed the ferrets and gear and headed off to big set which was mostly open. longnet was put around and netted up a few holes put the 2 ferrets down and soon after the rabs were flying out...great fun! had two digs on this set both easy one footers. ended up taking 20 rabs out, a mixture of 3/4, half and full grown. there was some very small which i let go. after the set was cleared i packed up as i got enough rabbits, the ferrets had a good run out aswell as the dog so headed back to the farm. showed him how i got on and was very happy. he asked me to have a look at another set near the farm which i did, it was like a big rouble pile and would of been a nightmare to dig, i did it anyway and out bolted 5 fully growns. all in all i had a good morning and cant wait to get onto the other sets aswell as the other land...its going to be a good season a few picks of the mut and the first set....enjoy!
